...dont worry - I know its been done to death!  The search tool\'s been invaluable, and Ive found some great advice and clarification, even tweeks for the Apexi FC Commander!

However, its likely im going to refit the CAT before the test.  I know the car\'s previously been measured at 1.69% CO and 234 PPM HC\'s on an idle non CAT test, and thats with:
- Street port
- PowerFC ECU (Mapped by Pip @ WGT)
- Decat
- Apexi Filters
- Exhuast

...so do you think if my CAT\'s working correctly it\'ll likely bring emissions down to below 0.2 CO and 200 PPM on HC\'s?

your in Cheshire bud, take it to pip, he cn mod the apexi to get it passed for you n save you messing around with the cat :)

Ive dropped Pip an email, see what he says.  If he can sort it so I dont have to refit the CAT he\'ll be elevated from \'Top bloke\' status to \'Demi-God\' and I\'ll have to set up a shrine in his honour! :King

i don\'t understand why you would need to get it below 0.2%. as you said it passes a non-cat test which is 3.5% co2 and 1200ppm. If you car is 1996 or later than you will have a problem but the test if at 0.3% not 0.2% for that.

The car\'s a 95, and the DVLA gave it an M Registration, but despite this they have it recorded as 31st Dec \'05 as the date of first use (So should be an N reg if their dates correct).  Therefore as its after 31st July \'95, it needs a CAT test.

I dont trust the accuracy of the DVLA\'s record int he slightest.  Working in the public sector I know how innacurate these databases are, and the DVLA\'s innacuracy is public knowledge.  Im currently trying to establish the real date of first use in Japan.

have u ever taken this car for a mot
the machine will not show an exact match and as such if on m plate the tester will just give it a non cat test u are getting into a lather over something that will prob sail thru the mot

No - but I know the previous owner very well and I know exactly what it\'ll say when it finds the match! \'Probably\' quite frankly isnt good enough, hence doing research beforehand.

rx7veilside

the point is they wont get a match as the import fd3s is not on the database only uk rx7 which is not a exact match
i think u are doing a lot of hard work for nothing if its an import up to 95 m reg it will only need the 3,5co test nothing else but feel free to go ahead and do loads of work for nothing
heres the rules
uk car pos 92 full test/pre 92 3.5co only
import pre 95 3.5co test onlt
import post 95 full test
your choice

Timmy

Alot of mot testers haven\'t done there re training as they have to do it often or they\'re just arses. Unless you car is a uk car it is physicaly impossible for them to find a match. If your car is a M reg it is tested to 3.5% thats it. If it\'s a N reg it is tested to 0.3%. If the tester is coming up with 0.2% he has manualy selected a uk spec rx7 which he is not aloud to do anymore, all car must now be inputed into the computer by vin number.

Its on the VOSA database.  I can look it up online from //www.motinfo.gov.uk using the logbook reference, MOT test reference number. It has the first registered date of 31/12/05.  It also lists the vehicles VIN number.  Also - on the flow chart for MOT testers, it says vehicles first used after 31/07/05 require the CAT test.

I hope your right, I wish it was true, but all the evidence indicates otherwise.

yes after 31jul it will but majority of testers will just do the non cat test

...but if its on the database, and they\'ve foudn the information, they have to use what they\'re being told - as Timmy pointed out.

Ian@TunerUK

This is my old car and when I took to be MOT\'d last year, the machine (which regulates exactly what test it SHOULD have) which uses the DVLA database came back with a CAT test and therefore \'should\' be tested as such.

The MOT centre I used is family so I wasn\'t bull****ted :)

heres my solution drive rex in then stick the probe up another cars chufty sorted one full cat test:Thumbsup!

Timmy

I see what you mean now. Your problem is there is something wrong with your registration, i would say the first thing is to get that sorted. Find out when is was really first used and demand it be rectified by the dvla, either you need a N plate or you should be able to have a non cat test.
