Quote from: Nik da GreekI\'ve got the same intercooler as Robbie there, but branded Trust rather than GReddy (but obviously the exact same thing). I\'d recommend it without reservations, excellent bit of kit, if that\'s any help in making your decision. Just like allstaruk said, you need to make sure you get the ducting to it right, but it\'s fantastic quality, totally bombproof and avoids major hassle fitting a front or V-mount, which are possibly a bit overkill on a mild tune anyway. Polishes up lovely, too

thanks for that, what size is your IC any way, is it an easy fit?  I will get Kerim at Powergains to fit any IC for me with some hard pipes if I decide to get one

Yeah, they\'re almost a direct replacement for the standard one, just a bit larger each way. Mine presses very close to the water pump/hose union, but has been fine for a year and a bit, not rubbed through anything yet! :chat . Making the ducting was a bit of a faff, but if you buy Robbies\' ready made one you\'d be spared that hassle. Managed to fit and/or make it all myself so it can\'t be too hard, cos I\'m a mechanical cretin!

Wasn\'t trying to steal a sale, btw, just to clear that up. I need mine to run the car still, I was just vouching for the one offered to you earlier!

No worries mate.

What is really the difference between larger and smaller intercoolers?  Is is the intake temperature?  Is there such a thing like a lag? Jm-garage.co.uk mentioned the above…

RE my mods - I forgot to mention that the exaust port has been enlarged as well

Lag tends to be a side effect of the length of pipework and how long it takes the turbos to pressurise it all as far as the throttles. Yeah, it keeps intake temps down, not as much as a front mount, but then they occlude the air flow to the water radiator, which on a Rex is what you don\'t want. V-mount is the best compromise, excellent short I/C pipe run for no lag and equal cooling for I/C and water rad, but cost a lot or and/or take loads of fitting

Yeah it\'s just the intake temperature basically. They all have their ups and downs be it front mount or standard mount.

Front mounts block air to the rad, so you\'ll need to get creative in ducting some air to the rad. This application is best for drag racing. They also have quite a bit more lag because of the length of piping needed and the size of the intercooler.

Standard mount suffer from heat soak from the rad so this is why you need ducting to it from the nose of the car directly to the intercooler. With this intercooler, you use your stock mazda ducting, just need to trim some off for this greddy to fit in.

V mount is the ultimate setup but costs a fortune and imo is not really worth the money.

This greddy is designed to just about fit inside the engine bay. It will fit in between the stock airbox and stock battery case

Spooky! Just like wot I said, only better written!

I guess it will be stock set up.  I have no stock air box, it has been removed.  I have the HKS Racing Suction Kit instead.  I have quite a lot of room now for a decent IC.

Thanks for the advice ….

Now is the question of shopping around for one and getting a good deal.  Since I had a re-build then I will run the engine in then I will fit the new IC and have it mapped by JayDee here in London.

Papercup

I have one for sale if you\'d like it. My car was up at WGT getting the V Mount put on and i have the kit that was on mine when i got it.

Both the rad and IC are sitting in my garage gathering dust.

Make me an offer for the pair.
