Seeing as the tein kits are very expensive i\'ve decided to see if i can put a kit together cheaper and possibly even better quality. It will hopefully be a stainless steel finish.
I need some info off you guys with gas struts (tein or not).

Could any one give me the length of the strut, it\'s 2 measurement the length of the cylinder and the length of the rod, i hope you know what i mean. If not i will see if i can draw a diagram.

Also pictures of how they are fitted will be very useful particuarly of the mounting points.

I may even be able to make this avalible to buy through a trader maybe or a group buy.

Thanks for any help

Sy.

i know there are Ebay ones avaliable that might give you the measurements .

I\'ve got some Australian ones on mine that seem pretty similar to the Tein ones. Only not green! I\'ll get some measurements and photos of the mounts later today if its any help

Right, took some measurements. Not sure what bits you specifically needed measuring, but hopefully these\'ll be useful. The damper body is 225mm long, the rod when extended is 195mm, and the overall length of the whole thing from mount to mount is 460mm when extended. I guess there\'d be a bit of leeway with this, depending on what angle you want the bonnet to sit at when open.

Took some photos which are of terrible quality, sorry, but hopefully good enough to make the mounts out ok. The wing-mount is a ball-headed bolt that simply replaces the second original wing bolt, the bonnet mount is a shaped steel plate with the ball-joint mounted to the side. It mounts on the front of the bonnet hinge plate using the oe nut and an anti-shake washer. Hope this helps

If you click on the photos they come out enlarged. Sorry, dunno how to do all that photobucket malarkey!

Cheers that exactly what i needed. As i will have to work out exact measure ments myself but needed to roughly to work from there. I also can adjust the strength for c/f and fpr bonnets.

I\'m quite interested in seeing how this goes, just fitted a c/f bonnet and fancy some of these, although maybe only one would be needed as it is c/f?
The tein ones that i\'ve seen seem to connect to the car further back, i.e towards the windscreen than these, so dunno if that makes a difference tho
:Laugh LOL

i can do i either way one high power strut or two weaker ones for any weight bonnet. With a bit of math it can be done however you like. I would suggest 2 tho particuarly with carbon and fpr bonnets as i found on my old car if you leave the bonnet up supported on one side only it changes shape and take a couple of days to settle back down again.

I personally found almost no difference betwene the standard ali bonnet and a CF one (CF was ever so slightly lighter) so should be the same as what you would need for an ali one :)
