Can spacers be used to correct offsets? or are they for something else

rextreme

Yes you can.

I run 5mm spacers all round.
No problem

Soon to run 20mm.
Wheel bearings watch out.

Russ.

ScuttleRX

ahh, maybe my probs are solved then.

There any knock on effects of using them?

rextreme

dont know about UK but most places are Illegal!

Usually cause they place extra load on the wheel studs and other things.
But If you want +35 and can only get +38 then run a 3mm spacer.
Its not going to affect things too much.

Mine are +40 so I run a 5 mm spacer. Basically means +35.

If you get an engineer to say OK then usually fine.

ScuttleRX

ahh so they decrease the offset, didnt think it through.

The wheels im after have a low offset so guessing spacers wouldnt work anyways!

J4P RX

What offset are you thinking?

The lower the number, the further out the wheel becomes.  I just put OS+20 on the rear, and it rubs.  No good, but ill probably try to make it fit (neg camber, rolled arches) rather than take them off.

rextreme

Yes reduce the off set.

If you can only get +24 or so could be a squeeze.

ScuttleRX

Not sure exact offset, just know its too low...still looking for what the offset actually is

rextreme

Offset is anything.

Japan page has everything

Mazda +35   18x8 and 9

Should be perfect

ScuttleRX

Nice one, looks like ive been misinformed, cheers for that matey ;)

rextreme

When you go to a wheel shop.

Dont ask "what have you got to fit a mazda FD3s"
Cause they wont know.
Tell them you want +35 offset 18x8 and 18x9.
They will look in their catalog and say no mate, that will only fit an S15 sylvia.
Then say "OK, I have a sylvia"

Tyre size for those, 225/40/18 and 255/35/18
Or
235/40/18 and 265/35/18

Depends how you want the sidewall to react.
I would run the smaller. Nice sweet turn in.
235 better for 8.5inch rim
But depends on brand too. Some brand 235 are wider than others.

Russ.

ScuttleRX

Cheers for the advice Russ, may go 225 on front and 265 rear, little bit of extra traction for the drag ;)

Now I know exact offset I\'ll do what you say and ask for specific wheel rather than car type:)

J4P RX

Going to a wider tyre doesnt necessarily change the amount of grip.  It just changes the shape of the contact patch...
