Yes I thought that him leaving the scene would be an offence, but when we were at the police station the policewoman said that as he\'d rang the police to say he\'d been involved in an accident, he\'d done the right thing, even though he didn\'t stop?!

Hi Alison,

Really sorry to hear about this - I hope you get it sorted.

I think you\'d be wasting your time with Orange - firsly yes you are entitled to copies of any information they have about you but only if it\'s in an easily accessable format. As Bobbit says - if you don\'t have itemised billing this may not be very easy to do. And secondly it won\'t 100% prove you weren\'t on the phone - as said it could have been an incomming call and you wiped the record, or you could have been on another phone - I have two.

Anyway it sounds to me like he\'s just trying it on so stick to your guns and I\'m sure you\'ll be fine. The damage should also hopefully show that he hit you?

Anyway good luck and let us know what happens.

Well what if he was over the limit! that\'s a crafty move! to protect his license! i still think he should be prosecuted for leaving the scene of an accident, i am suprised the insurance co, have taken the car away! i thought they sent an accessor to the car!
Good luck Alison.

Alison

Well they told me they were taking it away but the guy came this morning and just took some photos. I\'ll be getting the dreaded phone call either later today or tomorrow!

This may sound a bit of a daft suggestion, but at the moment the Insurance companies we work with are trying very hard not to write cars off if they can absolutely help it, last week we repaired a 89 Supra with similar damage because the guy who owned the car spoke to the Assessor and suggested he supply second hand panels which dramatically reduced the cost of the repair, Don\'t feel that you can\'t suggest options like this if you don\'t want your car totaled as its often the price of Panels that send things like Fd\'s over the edge (the front end is mainly bolt on bits so little labour involved).

Unfortunately the police think more like this now (example) Imagen you want to car jack some one?? whats the easiest way to get them to pull over and get out of the car?? or the road rage Theory, to avoid things escalating into an assault or serious incident if for example you feel threatened.

So the police\'s response can be very different depending on how you respond after you drive away and the words you use when you talk to them.

But in your case i think the Guy\'s obviously not new to all this (proberly is a coward who doesn\'t like to front the person who\'s property he\'s damaged).

Alison

Thanks for the replies guys, here\'s some pictures of my baby...

Jings! He didn\'t exactly just graze you, then, did he! Must\'ve been quite a whack, can\'t believe someone could be so maggot-c*cked to hit someone that hard and just drive off. He was probably hoping you didn\'t get his number, so he\'d "done the right thing" according to the Bill by phoning them, but no-one had come forward to claim against him (due to not knowing who the scumbag was), so it just gets dropped. The sickening lowlife!

tbh that looks an easy repair (not too far of a diy job). Not a very good pic of the Bumper (may repair) and replace the wing and possably lamp cover if its damaged and not just come off its brackets.

Have you got a pic of the front panel with the bonnet open? the light looks a funny angle but i don\'t see anything that is hard to fix (may be an illusion with the wing being pulled out)

i was thinking that myself, does look very conmetic, new bumper, wing etc and sorted :)

Alison

Yeah hopefully not as drastic as we first thought!!

Got a local bodyshop out to give a proper estimate so waiting for that, should be tomorrow now.

Probably needs the whole headlight unit replacing, and like you say, new wing, bumper...jobs a good \'un!!

adib

sorry to see that alison
but looks an easy fix as long as its done no damage under bonnet

leaving the scene is a big no-no - is it worth speaking to the old bill again and seeing what they say? As far as i am aware, if anyone is injured the police are obliged to attend accidents too.

a) he could have been drunk
b) the chap driving might not be the insured driver/banned etc, and the chap that phoned up might be the real insured party.

what a pita, sorry for you.

Timmy

I would say as he didn\'t stop it is almost certain that one of the above was true.

It\'s five to ten points discretionary for leaving the scene OR failing to report an accident, I believe. Unfortunately, the ol Bill are now so stretched/lazy/incompetent (delete as applicable, depending on how hostile you feel towards our boys in blue atm), they settle for the culprit just reporting it if they do leave the scene, a sort of deliberate misunderstanding of a bit of woolly wording of the law that lets them spend more time eating doughnuts and eying up porn at the station/call centre/sty (delete as applicable, you get the idea).
