Ive owned the car for about a month now, but its been at home (with me being at uni), though this weekend i got to drive it for the first time. Its awsome!!!

The car is stock apart from the intake and a single exit full through exhaust.

The in take is fed from the cold side of the radiator, this was done by the previous owner, here are some pics (think someone wanted them)

Not bad for £800 :D

Cool - I used to have a K&N cone on my Egi, the thing was huge, probably as big as the whole stock air box! lol!

ok to answer the how bit is the air intake as i was the one that did it, if you look you can see a carbon fiber housing the air filter sits in then is a little longer than the carbon fiber is but only by about 1 cm bit is in cone shape and goes from about 2 inches at the end to the full width of the carbon at the bace
its a £120 bmc filter modded to fit into the space that the rex gave me due to the afm if didnt have the afm i could have done something better but i was on a buddget due to spending most of my cash on the air filter and carbon,

i love the way people mock it when someone puts hose pipe or air duckting or something in but ill tell you something i was going to use some of that metal hose ducting for air feeds but the stuff is crap i used it on an mr2 years back and if it tuches something or you make a hole to hold it in place with a tag tie or something it just falls to bits with the engines heat and vibration. hence why its got semi expencive modifies air ducting thats tick plastic coz it copes with the heat and the flex of the engine and you can lean on it and it wont perish like the ****ty metal flex air pipe you can get.

billybobbooth

also what do you think the boys that run 1000bhp skylines and 600bhp mr2s and stuff use from companies like jun racing a bit of crap brittal metal air pipe or light plastic air feed pipe? i know the answer coz i have seen some of the big companys work and i can tell you its not a shiney bit of metal pipe.

billybobbooth

god i miss that car.bugged my nabours but i loved the noise couldnt beet it.

Prof

actually it makes sense to not use the metal ducting stuff, and the hose your using is design to carry air - so who cares that it\'s in a car. :cheers

Interested in where you\'ve mounted the end of the pipe - is it in the side of the radiator fan cowel ?  Does it not pick up heated air from the Rad ?
"Plus this engine is probably one of the most volumetric engines going! It passes more air than a herd of cows eating vindaloo\'s" - courtesy of AtomicRex

billybobbooth

nope as its on the cold side of the rad! the rad actualy cools some of the air espesh on a hot day, and the fan actualy pulls the air threw the rad helping the intake get more air as its suckes more than the fan so the air the fan pulls in the air filter actualy eats, and the end of the duckting at the rad is shapped to sit at the same angle as the rad so it can get as much air as pos into the intake.
i spent baout 5 weeks planning it and making sure it was all to an advantage over the standard pipes hence why the afm has moves right next tot he tbs rather than next to the intake pipe, it reads the temp that is actualy going into the engine not what it was at the air filter.
i know it made a diffrence coz it went from running fuel/air ratio being smack on to it running lean after it was put on and had to go down to rotorteknics to be reset coz of it,

the bottom pick shows where it is if you were to look past the fan to the rad :D

forgot to ask you are the front wheels catching the brakes? coz if they are you may have to put 5mm spacers all round or get some 16" turbo wheels
for anyone that dosnt know what im talking about i put fd front brakes and pads on and the 15" wheels are about 1mm if that away from the brakes due to the wheels have a lip that comes in on the 15" wheels and if there were about 3mm further out they would be about 3mm away from the wheels which is about the normal distance. but the 16" turbo wheels would clear the brakes by about 1/2 inch but would still keep the car semi standard looking.

billybobbooth

spacers would cost you about £20 for all 4 corners but dont get crap alloy ones from tmc get some proper solid steel ones as i had a set of the alloy ones on an mr2 i bought and when i found out i took them off and went to see how strong they were and you could bend them with your hands!
