Hi there,

I am loosing water fro my car via the overflow in the plastic expansion  tank, when the system is hot the AST tank cap lifts and the water goes into the expansion tank but does NOT come back when cool. Therefore  a cup full of water is missing from my system and it stays in the expansion tank. What do you guys think is stopping the return of the coolant to the AST?  I have a brand new AST cap and this has made no difference. I have replaced all the hoses for silicon and new clips etc still no improvement.

When you go to top up the coolant,it does not have to be right up to the top of the filler neck,it should be when cold around 2 inches below, just leave it for a few day\'s and see how it runs.
If you do get a loss of coolant then it could be air in the system,or even an engine problem.

Just browsing and came across this topic.
I\'m also losing water/ coolant. I recently replaced rad and ast bottle. Topped up system with water/ coolant and after every drive, car sits, cools down and when I go to start again, buzzer goes off and rad bottle (besdie alternator) is empty.... Top up and car is fine again. Driving fine although this can\'t be good...

Do you think that it could be the seals or maybe that there is still air in the system.

Thanks

Sorry to say mine was the water seals had gone, had a rebuild and it fine now.  Start the engine and very soon my water pipes would go very hard this means that the system is under pressure from gases in the coolant.
kind regards,
