Hi,
Now in the market for a long awaited RX7.
The car will be used as a second car only for summer/sunny days etc on a limited mileage, therefore I will have no No Claims Bonus to transfer on the RX7 insurance.
I have run around a number of your recommended companies, except AON (ringing on Saturday) for an idea of insurance costs.
I would have liked to purchase a single turbo car, however the premiums are between £665 (Adrian Flux) and £936 (Footman James)and as I do not have extremely deep pockets, I am being deterred from my preferred choice of car.

Can anyone advise whether these quoted premiums are normal. I am 47 years old, car will be stored in locked/alarmed garage etc

Thanks
Chris

In the end I went with AON, on a limited mileage policy my premium was only £330. I\'m 25 with the car kept on the drive. I couldn\'t get anywhere else to quote anywhere near as cheap - adrian flux were quoting around £2K!

Having said that tho I\'ve heard that Aon aren\'t necessarily so good with performance mods - sometimes not quoting people if their power output is more than 50bhp over standard - but others haven\'t had that problem, my car only has an exhaust and body mods.

Pete,
Yes I have a quote from A Plan, they were cheaper but based on a standard Type R. They quoted £385, but with the highest excess of £500 through an insurer called Group Armour whom I have not heard of.

I realise owning and running a Rex will not be cheap, but investing £700 a year for the car to sit in the garage for 3-4 months through the winter just made me think again and wonder whether I would get similar enjoyment from a twin turbo with a lower premium instead of a single turbo car with a higher premium.
Thanks for your replies.

Chris a lot depends on what you want the car for wether its worth going single with the inherent insurance hike but probably less to go wrong on a single. Are you going for lots of track/strip runs ?What car are you coming from as will make a diference as to the fun you will have in comparison ?You can get a lot of pleasure from a nicely sorted twin so long as modded with safety in mind for the engine.I came from an evo V and have no regrets it was a stock twin virtualy until i opened the wallet.

Pete,
Just sold a Westfield kit car, weighed 500kgs and ran a 2.1cc stage III engine with over 175bhp. Did a few hill climbs and track days.
The limitation was the car was not fully enjoyable in the UK (unpredicable) summers.
So, I always wanted an RX7, and decided to sell the westfield, (it went to the first buyer yesterday).
I plan to use the Rex through the warm months, I hope to attend shows and maybe a few track days for pleasure, not necessarily to compete.
As I\'m new to this market, I would welcome any advise as to which car to buy.
Thanks for your interest.

Chris for what you say you want an RX for i would stick with a twin with good proven compression results & a rebuild fairly recently if possible depending on your budget as you dont (for now anyway ;) ) need the higher power of a single. If you can find one with some mods already done will save £££ later suggest main one is the power fc ecu so can be mapped as & when you get the modding bug (buy the ecu later will cost £400 ish) make sure you declare it to insurance though.
