Right guys i think my Cat has seen better days (partially blocked) and i was looking at buying a de-cat but just wanted to know if i have to re-map her (involves me fitting some form of piggy back or ECU) or not to worry. I know these are delicate engines and the last thing i wanna do is blow her up, but i spoke to my master tech at work today who has dabbled with the rotaries and is currently building a circuit racer (series 2) with his brother who builds and tunes the rotatry lumps and both have said i should bother getting a re-map or any any kind of map as My 7 will be fine. What do you guys think? Any one running a de-cat with no form of fuel control?

Thanks in advance

Apologies for the double post my PC has lost the plot.

This cannot be easily done with the stock ecu, so most fd owners buy the power fc. If your running stock twins, the power fc will control the boost fine. On an NA rotary you could prob get away with it, but on a turbo rotary, your gonna overboost with no cat meaning possible detonation. You need some sort of boost control and extra fueling, the power fc does both of these.

99% sure a de-cat without proper fuelling adjustment is a No-No mate.

Sure you can give it a go but from what ive read it is a very common cause of rotary engine failure.

Ah right so cos the Turbos have nothing to push against there gona overspool. Got ya. I have a fuel controller but its all in Japanese! Lol. Might start the hunt for a power FC then. Thanks Robbie. Anyone else have any comments on the situation. Please forgive me im a Rotary newbie so im trying to gain as much info as possible.

Thats something i definalty dont want!

Exactly, and overspooling means more air forced into engine. More air and not enough fuel going in to engine = detonation.

Yeah which is wrong mixture which these lumps hate! I like flames but im not so keen on Det.

It will give a nice performance increase too. Just a decat, backbox and tuned power fc will give roughly 60-100bhp more depending on who maps the power fc.

rmagictastic

it differs from car to car, but generally speaking if you get a good filter and dump the cat/bigger back box, you will suffer from boost spike whereby the gasses flow faster than the control loop on the stock ecu can catch it and dump excess pressure (via wastegate).

And as we know more boost needs more fuel, or in the case of the stock ecu, you will get \'Fuel Cut\', this feels like youve hit a brick wall, no power for a second then it goes back to normal.

Open your wallet get an Apexi PFC, have a map, and happy driving with more power, less fuel  etc.....

Getting old... Its not like it was in my day!

Agreed, Power FC and Map mate for sure.  Not only will you give your self more power with a smoother drive you\'ll extend the life of your engine (and your car will be setup for our lesser fuel)

I know what fuel cut is as my old car had that! Lol. Thanks though Rmaj this a whole new ball game for me. Glad shes a weekend toy soon so i can get a few bits for her, first are gona be a de-cat and apexi! He he

Awesome thanks Mark. Where\'s the best place to find Apexi PFC\'s? Ebay?

I got my PFC from Nengun - took over 2 months to arrive, but it was so cheap it was more than worth it!!
