Harder to find gear when cold

For the last while im finding it harder to find gear when the car is cold. I don\'t have a problem once the car warms up. Does this make sense to anyone why this would be happening? I assume it means the clutch is on it\'s way out?

Hi,
If you mean when the weather is cold as well, that would be jsut the oil needing to be warmed up.

Ye the weather is cold as well, should the oil being warm make such a big difference? I only notice the problem when switching to first or second gear. Do you think the clutch could be fine then?

Have had the same problem for 3 years when the oil is cool.

ive got this but its difficult to select 1st 2nd and 3rd but clunky and will not select ANY gears for 15 minutes after startup without a battle! clutch problem i think

release bearing or pressure plate problem?

if your just getting a little difficulty then ok i would say to change the oil so that its at the right level and new and thats it.

Depends on the oil you have in there. Some are heavier than others and take longer to warm up.

Redline Heavy Duty Shock Proof takes ages to warm at this time of year.

I have the same problem from cold. Using Redline heavy duty shock oil, which is think stuff. But as i don\'t push the car till everything has warmed up i\'m not that bothered. In fact it\'s a good sign that at least the gearbox in up to temp.:3gears-rh
P.s Can also make a car a little jumpy a lower rpm/speeds, till it\'s warmed up.

Normal behaviour at this time of year - as above - cold gear oil. Try a fully Synthetic oil, that should help. The FB uses 75W 90 gear oil, don\'t know what the FD uses. Also is the oil very old? Might help to change it for ordinary oil if it is.

yep 1st into second a bit harder to engage but gearbox is smooth as silk when its warmed up.
