Hey everyone. Is there any way to tell if the cat on my 92 rex is knackered. Is it possable to pull it off the car and tell by looking inside?

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Regards
Phil

pick it up and shake it

easiest way is that as bits should basically fall out or just swap it and test.

As someone said, i dont think there is a definative test except taking the cat off the car and shaking/upending it. when i did mine half of its guts fell out onto the floor.

i do know a symptom can be that the cat will overheat in trafic causing the heat warninglight to come on, perhaps also a rattle from the lose baffles inside? hope that helps :Thumbs-up
I woof in your general direction.

So basically you just take off the midpipe and give it a good shake? If it was a bit broken up would the bits not be flying out of the exhaust anyway (avoiding the need to check it)

That may well be just a flea allergy, mate. Get some Frontline or similar treatment on it, works wonders!

Our cat found it quite hard to jump up onto thing like the couch, back end went out on it. Know all about that one myself now!

ok a cat is basically a block of precious metals that in the corect order filter the harmfull emmissions and convert them into h20 an other less harmfull gasses cat converters have many faults and problems the easiest to see and hear is the rattle the block becomes loose and bangs about .
2 the cat its self can suffer from pertrol flooding if the engine is to rich the leading edge odf the cat and soak fuel and set fire to iself internally melting the front edge and creating poor performance as the filter rate is to grate
3 oil can do the same without the fire but can block the small holes in the cat causing a ristriction and again lack of power .
you can have the cats sent away for testiong or an mot sniffer can give you a good idea if its coking blocked or not working . hope that helps after my funny five mins :WaveBye
