Right... my engine is out...  totally stripped down to the block.
It\'s time to remove the flywheel.  I was told you have to loosen the nut at the front of the engine first, Main pulley, then do the fly wheel nut.  But i can get the bloody front nut loose..... Am i doing something wrong.... been trying to turn it anti clockwise....it\'s not one of these funny ones that undo clockwise is it...

Any advice on lossing this nut so i can get the flywheel off would be much appreciated.

ANTI-CLOCKWISE. When undoing try and eliminate all flex, whether through the tool or the engine moving. It is very tight, we have made up some bits to brace it and undo it.

Hi Adam,

The front nut is a normal thread, anti clockwise to undo it.  It will often have thread lock on it and should be done up to about 90 ftlb torque from memory.  An air ratchet or electric type might make it release a little easier. The flywheel is secured with thread lock and donee up to over 300 ftlb.  Make sure the engine is secure and the flywheel has a bar bolted to it to stop it turning. There are other ways of securing it but the bar worked for me.  If it really is that tight it might be worth borrowing an electric ratchet as if you snap it you may damage your eccentric shaft.

good luck, it is worth it in the end, there is hugh satisfaction in doing it your self which shows in the form of a hugh grin when you drive it.

of course i am assuming you havent built one before.
400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

where did you get your socket from ? I have a 12a in the garage I keep meaning to strip but i don\'t have an impact socket big enough

I used a 3/4 socket which is a "special" for the hub nuts on a ford transit van. Think it is something like 56mm in diameter, so if you enquire about a hub socket for a transit you may get somewhere, but only certain tool shops will stock it.

Hope that helps, Paul:)

I got all the tools needed to remove the flywheel from my uncle....   i know they are expensive to buy :(

Engine is totally stripped down now....  just need to clean em and i will taking them to Pip next weekend to get ported :)  then it\'s rebuild time...
