Some advise pls, I have an 84 1st Gen with a recent recon engine, I am keen to give the car a little more power and would welcome your thoughts, experience and advise.

Hi,
is it completely standard?  If so, the cheapest and easiest way to get a little power is to take the heat exchanger off and replace it with some headers, these should be quite cheap now, then finish it off with the rest of the exhaust system, an airfiilter and throw the air pump away. RX Motors will probably have lots of 1st gen bits. This lot \'should\' give in the region of 20 - 25 bhp. Putting an electric fan on instead of the viscous cuppling one gives a little power aswell. Depending on your budget you can either go around some scrap yards and steal the set up from a stock car that will fit your rad or go and buy a Facet or similar.

Another option is a second hand elford turbo kit which will take you to about 160 - 170 BHP and works on the stock engine.

Or you could go all out and put a turbo II engine it it.  You would be looking at a minimum of 200bhp but closer to 250 as you would not have the cat, power steering, aircon etc etc.
My first gen has one and its scary fast, unfortunately the brakes and suspension arnt capable enough to keep up.

400 BHP - 650 KG\'s = 616 BHP Per Ton of Rotary Power

That\'s the way to do it! :Thumbsup!

Guess Tim @ RXmotors, his profile can be clicked here , would be the man to talk to having recently run an 11 second 1/4 in his 1st gen :god
Also may i take this opportunity to add you to my stalking list for midlands based rotary meets i\'m trying to get up & running, will you be coming to rotorstock perchance also? :D

Tony,

thanks for the info, I will contact RX Motors, I think I would be happy with the 25bhp to give it just a little extra zip, the engine and turbo upgrades sound great but just as you say I am keen to keep the power in line with the brakes and handling.

Thanks
Neil

Si,

Thanks, I am happy to to attend a local meet if you can get it off the ground, sorry I will not be at rotorstock, off on family holiday.

Leicestershire is almost in range of Pip at WGT. He would be my first recommendation for upgrade parts.

There are also gains to be had from adjusting the carbs and I think Pip can help you there and possibly Carl Hayward.

Between us we\'ll get you that extra pep :-)
