Well the cab is dead :(

went to take it to clares parents house so that its out of the way whilst getting some jobs done

whilst driving it up the road noticed LOADS of water in the passenger footwell ( sloshing around there was that much )

get to the junction - car dies and wont start

got 12v on the battery , it turns over but wont start

got no rev counter and the heat light is on

looks like a fried ECU

well AA just phoned - they are inbound - thats impressive - 10 mins since i phoned !!

Will report back soon

Stu

Seems you have a major water ingress problem Stu thats what killed the first ECU insn\'t it.

Bad news Stu. At least when you sort the leek out you have a reason to fit you Knightsports ecu. If not you can do a swap with my spare one.
I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!

Get your finger out, get it on the road and start driving it then!!! (B.Martin 25/2/12)

I suspect he has water tracking down the wiring loom.

Stu if the car did start at first, then the water can only of got into the ECU when you started driving it.  Whatever you do or the AA man does, you want to get it dry as quick as possible, as there is a good chance the ECU can be saved at this stage.

A friend of ours has a 280Z, and his ECU got soaked when he came out to a meet around here.  Poor guy had driven all the way from London.  AA guy came out and dried off his ECU with a hair dryer, then bagged it.

He did get it started again, but the ECU was still a bit damp and the car stalled a couple of times.  It went home on the low loader, but the leak was found and plugged and the original ECU - after a thorough drying - was back in and working.

All the best with it Stu.

car is back on the drive

thing is - the car has been out in the rain - no cover - so that doesnt help

gonna dry it out and get the ECU out asap

i think its been the shear amount of rain thats caused it

no idea where its leaking from though - could be a blocked roof drain ??

thing is drove fine - looks like when i touched the brakes - water sloshed into the ecu and thats when it stoppped

going out to dry the thing out ( if i can - as its dark !! )

well thats been an eventful last few hrs !! LOL

right then state of play ( i love lists )

1 - removed passenger seat to see how bad it was
2 - OMG
3 - OMG
4 - OMG
5 - there is a LOT of water
6 - put it this way - 2 bath towels into the area and it didnt touch it
7 - it was rougly about 1 - 2 inch deep
8 - spent a good hour with 2 car sponges taking the water out
9 - removed the kick plate
10 - ecu is out ( phew ! )
11 - its not massivly wet - no real water in it
12 - thats now sat by a radiator drying ( hope its still alive ?? )
13 - top plugs out - they were soaked
13a - put plugs over gas ring and dried and cleaned
14 - EGI fuse out and cranked over
15 - it was throwing fuel out the exhaust before - so defo ECU fault
16 - pushed car down the drive and praying for no rain - as im back to square one
17 - need to find a decent cover for it - no where dry to store it
18 - not sure where the leak is coming from - drivers side is damp - not wet
19 - need to check drainage around the roof , make sure its not a split pipe
20 - no water signs above the ecu - so its not coming from the windscreen end
21 - need to get it running again , get the roof down ( or just the windows ) and leave it with the heaters on and try and get the moisture out
21 - praying for it not to rain :D

thats the state of play - so might not have chance tomorrow to have a look - but not sure how long to leave the ECU dying out for ???

im tempted to get the KS tuned one out if i can find it -just to see if she will fire and run in the morning - but like i said - not sure how long to leave it for to dry out

Pete Taylor is sorting me a ECU out in case this one is shot - so that could be here on monday - at least i will have 2 to try ... im just hoping i havent killed the ABS one aswell like last time

hell .... its all fun and games :D

well found the KS tuned one in a box cunning labelled "RX7 bits" - so i have a spare if need be

fingers crossed mine isnt blow to bits - might try it in the morning - i dont think i can make it worse !!

then i need to check the rear drain tubes .. i have noticed that the pockets hold water - so maybe they are blocked and allowing water into the back of the car ???

not sure the best way of checking - might just pour a pint of water into the pocket and see how much comes out - if its not a lot - then i know there is a problem

i will keep you all posted ( as always !! )

Stu, found a TII UK ECU, you can have it for £40 delivered, this came out of a 1990 UK cab and was ok as the engine ran perfectly.  Will post it sat morning.  I do have a wiper switch as well but just so reluctant to\\part with it, i have had so many people after one i could have sold it a dozens times over.  I will make sure it works and then you \\can always make me an offer.  I actually have two but i defo want to keep one for myself.  how bad is your old one ?

Mine sometimes leaks in through the passenger side Stu. I still haven\'t found out where its coming in. Either through the windowscreen rubber as this has lifted slightly or through the bulk head if the drains are blocked. It gets into the heater ducking somehow on mine then when I start the car it drops it onto the passenger floor. It only does it when its been really wet and its been stood for a bit in it. There is a thread on here about it titled Leaky Blower. Don\'t know if this helps but I hope so. Good luck all the same. Keep us posted or if you need a hand or some bits let me know.
