Hope someone can suggest something here...

We went along to Lindop motorsports (very helpful they were too btw!) the other day to have the dreaded compression test! On the way there we noticed it was miss-firing, quite badly really, when you put your foot down quickly.  Had the test, front reading was high 7\'s touching 8, rear was low-mid 7\'s so it\'s all good there! Had some new spark plugs put in though \'cause they were a little worse for wear.  But on the way back - still miss-firing! It\'s never done this before, but that was the first time it\'s been driven for about a month and a half.

Any thoughts welcome! :) Thanks guys!

i use powerhouse in derby to service and look after my rx7.

give brian a ring on 01332 366588 and he should be able to diagnose the issue for you

Take it for a nice long drive to get it through the motions again, also check your map sensor to make sure its not loose, otherwise may require mapping to get it right by a tuner.

Thanks for the replies guys, I\'ve just been out in it actually for a run around and it seems to have got abit better. Not quite so scary now! But still holding back a little when you give it some right-foot! :) Just a bit - juddery, you know?

Looked at the ECU while we were there actually, and it\'s a Knightsport one. Does anyone know anything about them? I\'m seriously considering replacing it with an Apexi anyway.

m4drx

replace it or change to stock mazda.

if you want a stocker i have my old one otherwise get an apexi.

the remapped stock ones such as your KS one are mapped on much higher ron fuel!

you may also want to check your leads or just change them. also your earths and perhaps a suprisingly common one; the ignition wiring above the right arch liner as many many people running larger rims rub through the liner and through the wires!

if you have done anything at all, fit gauges or install an alarm even then that is the first place to start.

can you guess that ive been through it before.

That\'s my question answered then, off to find an Apexi!! :yes

trevtubby

if it hasnt done the juddering before, it wont be the ECU surely?

Sounds like an Ignition/Spark problem to me.

It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.

Well we had the cover off it at the weekend to see what sort it was, maybe loosened something in the process? It seems to have got better anyway, maybe it\'s just getting used to being back on the road.  If it happens again, I\'ll investigate further. :wiggle

I wouldn\'t drive it too hard while it\'s misbehaving like this.... might cause a serious problem, these motors dont like being anything other than 100% happy.

I\'d bin that ECU regardless of wether or not it is the cause of the fault.

Get yourself an Apexi or similar and have her mapped asap, you\'ll love the difference !!

make sure the ECU is dry as they can suffer from moisture and water down on the floor. It might well be just drying out and getting better.
The knightsport one will be mapped for 100 ron so change it or get 99 stuff in there and drive carefully.
