Everyone,

I have an empty space staring back at me right now where the stereo used to be (no cage, nothing, just wires) and as much as i love the sound of my own voice, i would like some music when im driving.

Ive always wanted an in-dash touch screen dvd player, like the alpine or pioneer but recently i got thinking about the practical side of things:

Will i really watch dvds in my RX7? Most of the time im driving too fast to have time and i dont really want to sit around watching films in the car. its for driving!

What does everyone think? Im beginning to look at getting a really good single din unit and upgrading the rear speakers. Got some adzest? ones in the front.

Any ideas are helpful

I have a double din kenwood cd player - fills the space quite nicely

you can almost see it in this picture ...

I had the same decision. Went with a single din Alpine with Ipod control and bought a single din storage unit on ebay for £10.
I found you can get a higher spec single din unit for the same cost as a double din unit due to far more model availability in the more popular single din.
Was thinking of going down the double din screen route and agree, driving the RX is far more fun that ever watching TV. just got a Tom Tom for sat nav duties (they\'re so damn cheap at the moment)

I was thinking the same a while ago and ended going for the single din. Prefer the look of them. Glad I did now cause when I fitted the pfc I drilled a hole in the corner of the blank din cover and ran the cable through the back of the center console, if I went double din id have cable running along the side.
I think the blank space would also be a good place for gauges either and going single gives ye the option. You\'ll never use the DVD.

Thanks for the help guys, im beginning to lean towards the single din and like you said, I could get a higher spec unit for the same price.

I will probably never use the dvd so the only thing it would be good for is looking flash.

That kenwood unit does look ok though, i like their stuff, high spec and good price.

Ok think im definately getting a single din and a single cubby hole from ebay.

Cheers everyone.

i have single din and i hate it.
Really really really want a double din nakamichi

I love the double din\'s, but im just constantly thinking when it\'s gonna get nicked because the front dont come off. I sold my old clarion years ago and now have a single din with a bin underneath. Im very tempted with a carputer touchscreen, but im undecided where i want to take the car at the mo, strip it all out for track use, or keep it untouched

Tv/DVD player will defo be pointless i reckon mate, i had a flashy single din slide out DVD & 7" screen in my FD for the last year, only once watched a DVD for about 20 mins while waiting for someone.
Took it out on sat & sold it, just replaced it with a decent alpine single din and a 3 gauge panel.

Totally agree,

I recently sold my kenwood double din 701U as i had it in my itr and was constantly paranoid about it cause the front doesnt come off. When i got my FD i sold it and bought a single din with detachable front.

Now want a gauge pod for below the radio

what about single din and fit some gauges in the other din space? i think it looks cleaner that pillar gauges, but i guess that a personal preference

edit: oops just saw the last line of neils post!

Yeah im definately going for the single din now, found a decent alpine mp3/cd player. Gonna use the spare cash to buy some decent speakers.

Been looking at various car audio places and they vary a lot. I sed to use this place on Shooters Hill in mcdonalds but thats a bit of a mission for me now, living in harrow, so was wondering if anyone knows any really good car audio places in west/north west/north london? So far i have looked at Car Audio Security in hayes and whilst i can tell they are good, their labour costs are big!

trotter

In all fairness mate have a go yourself. car audio installation is the proverbial piece of p!ss. You might need a bit of a hand/info for taking the inside apart as neccessary but if you think it through beforehand, get all the required bits you can do a decent install in a day or two.

Well, thats my opinion for what its worth...have a trawl through the ICE and electrical forum and see what others have done..

Cheers for all the advice guys!

Trotter, unfortunately my electrical skills amount to changing a light bulb!

Well anyway, went to a place in harrow last night called Sound Evolution and had a good alpine mp3/cd headunit put in along with front and rear co-axial speakers. It sounds amazing! Didnt bother with an amp or sub as i want to keep the car light-ish.

These guys fitted a flush fitting cubby box in the spare din space and sorted all the wiring to a good level. I took the car to them at 4pm and they stayed on until 7.30 making sure it was fitted properly! That is damn good customer service. The price for the parts was internet level of cheapness too!!! In short if anyone needs some ICE work done, i would thoroughly recommend these guys.
