I Has anyone got any recommendations on what to look for and where to get one? As per most I am looking for a bargain but good quality..! Quite happy to buy direct from japan if anyone has any tips. What should I be expecting to spend?

Thank you

My recommendation would be to walk away bud, sorry to say.

Ive heard nothing but bad things about vertical doors.  There was a thread a little while ago on here were a lad had just paid a fortune to buy and fit them and was removing them ASAP.

Ive heard stories about rams failing regularly and hinges breaking.  The parts are too stressed.

My own bro owns an MX5 with a kit on and the door gap is widened and the traffic noise / wind p!sses you off too.

If you are still determined then spend the money on an expensive kit, like LSD.  Most of the time you will have to pay to have them fitted well.  Make sure the door swings out high enough for you to actually get in the car without limboing under the bleedin thing too!

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news :)

Is that gullwing stylee, like off the old Merc?

If so a few people have sorted DIY conversions.  Ive seen a Golf MK2 and even a mad silver coloured company demo FD (the one with the totally different front and back end, cant remember the company) with them, but nowt off the shelf and a hell of a lot of cash!

The main problem with gullwing conversions is that they\'ll need a very strong roof, so you\'ll end up adding a lot of weight quite high up. Not what I\'d try to do on something like an FD. Not to mention that you probably have to strenghten the A & B pillars as well just to keep the car in one piece.

Unless it\'s for a showcar I wouldn\'t do it.

dont touch them m8! i had a set on my supra. yes the kit was cheap and the quality was good  but the fitting cost £1k!!!!!!!!!!! the fitted in the end but................... never really worked properly. had to be very careful opening and closing them, and supras have nothing around the glass! RX\'s  do so look a bit silly. take it from someone who has had these fitted. DONT do it!

...heard good things about a kit called c wings redline lambo door kit, very solid and no way this would bend, struts are well made, but no idea where to buy it. (Used to be on website importfan.com - no longer exists).

Ditto what everyone else said! Saw a really fed up looking white FD covered in stickers at RX Motors that some chap had bought blind from Japan and it had a lambo door kit-it was nigh on impossible to get in and out of and the amount of movement in the doors was incredible. Save yourself the hassle!

so far its x 3 \'what i\'ve heard\' and x 2 I\'ve fitted with no details on the kits or who the manufacturers are.............

I think lambo kits are the DOGs B***OCKS and look FOOKIN ACE and those who don\'t have em slate them !

:Thumbs-up do your research and forget tha hype !

p.s. no disrespect to those in the know.....lol....but detail would be good !
There are also some very well respected manufacturers out there with quality kit - who and where are they ?

List starts with:

1. Redine door kit - well made, quite heavy, updated dampers, but no current source. original rrp $2500.00
(no welding required, bolt on, all parts supplied, some inner wing minor cutting required for lift clearance).
2. Universal door kits- you get what you pay for (refer above)

Ohh.. Controversial!!

I think the look good.. But won\'t argue with the masses and I don\'t plan to find out the hard way! I guess they probably are a little akward and not very practical? I guess to some extent you get what you pay for..

Come on then fella, step up and tell us the kit youve got fitted to your own car.

If you have a few £1000 to buy the kit in the first place then you COULD probably get a good one, however isnt the style getting a weeny bit old now?

BTW my views were from talking to the pro body shop who fitted the kit and then using the kit for 18 months.  BTW is was an off the shelf kit designed specifically for the car :)
