Hi, Iam a rotary virgin with an 3rd import. Problem I have is flooding/non start after its sat over night. Compression is good new plugs fitted new cat and lambda as cat was broke up inside.

CO was running at 8.0% - after new parts fitted down to 3.0%.

Now it wont start unless I remove plugs dry/heat them up and refit then I get one shot at it or it floods.

Put spark testers on car and noticed that the top plugs are firing half as much as the bottom two. Is this correct?

When it was running I could take of the bottom leads whilst it was running and would have very little if any effect.

I suspect coil packs or crank sensor fault?

Any of you experts got any ideas you could help me with.

Leading sprak plugs always fire together for both rotors and the trailing ones fire independently, so that should account for the bottom ones fireing twice as much as the top ones.

If your suspecting electrical/sensor issues, first pull the codes from the ECU

http://www.rx7city.com/ecucodes.htm

If its a jap import jump the TEN and GND terminals with a wire and juimp the B+ and FEN Terminal with a 12V Led, the codes should flash on the LED

Good luck!

No codes from the ECU -

I still don\'t understand, what controls the trailing plugs then. Shouldn\'t they both fire on the same cycle as the leading plugs.

I know they are on different coils - but surely they fire consistently like the leading plugs.

The car seems to run OK with an occasional misfire. Maybe its leads - I can swap the two leading plugs leads whilst its running and it doesn\'t seem to make much difference.

I assumed leading plug would fire followed by trailing plug immediately after with the same amount of sparks per revolution.

They definitly fire together, the rotors are 180degrees apart so one of the leading sparks is wasted...

When you fitted the new cat, oxygen sensor and plugs, what exactly had you removed to do this?

No ECU codes probnably means all your sensors are back in correctly...

Does it Idle ok?

Thanks - yeah it idles OK.

I was just confused as to why trailing was firing less than leading.
