Best insurance option?

Hi guys,

New here - first post.  I\'ve just moved down to London and got rid of my old car.  Now as I don\'t really need a car round town and will only use one at weekends (and infrequently then) I thought I\'d get somethign a little more interesting which led to the idea of getting an rx7.

So I\'m looking at insurance options, I\'m 28 (29 in couple of weeks) with 7 years no claims living in N15.  Now I\'m trying to weigh up my options to get the best value/price insurance.  I\'m only going to be doing about 4000 miles a year tops and I doubt even that.  What would be my best option do you reccon?  Should I try track down the best limited mileage policy, can I get a classic policy with no other car, should I buy an el cheapo car, leave it at my folks up north (where insurance is cheap) and then get a classic policy?

Any pointers and which companies would be best would be greatly appreciated.

Eddie

I use classic insurance with sure term

limited milage, think it has to be garaged, also maybe needs to be a second car?

Dont need to use no claims, they have agreed value, and will except mods.

Just got my new price for fully comp for this yeat and it came in at wait for it

£225 :) well I was a happy bunny, 34, 3 points.

I spend that in beer in a month going out:)

What Mods you running? They\'ve always quoted me well, but I\'ve never got that good a quote - and don\'t have many mods + am over 25!

blacksheep

hmmm well if I can get a quote for that kinda of price it would make it well worth renting a garage and insuring a banger.

Eddie

MODS

full kit, scoot bonet, ally rad, custom lights all round, full exhaust upgrade, apexi ecu, decat pipe, tinited windows, 19 inch wheels, air filters, air pump removed greedy pullies, lowered, rear defuser. 330 ish BHP

so not that much really power wise or mods.

Got water injection, bosch pump, larger injectors and hks to go on soon but they have said it wont effect price at all :)

I think being  a driving instructor helps a little:) we dont speed you see:) and I am limited to 5000 a year.

Cant believe I get that sort of price as well it seems to go down a 50 quid ish each year started at 500 think I am low risk.

are more than what admiral were offering of shade over £1k for a non modified car.  Trying aon and aplan - any other suggestions?

oooh just spoke to sure term a couple of hours ago and if I can find off road parking then they can do me a classic policy - just spoke to a mate and he says I can use his drive and possibly his garage.

elford_tim

My impression of Sureterm is generally good, but if your car is modded at all, make sure that you get them to confirm that this is OK.

I had spoken to them before I bought my FD and once I actually got it, I suddenly found out that I had to find another insurer in a hurry as they wouldn\'t insure me on a modified FD.

A-Plan had no such problems so I now have the FD insured via A-Plan and the FC via Sureterm.

They have no issues insuring me on a modded FD, ok not mental mods but its
full kit, scoot bonnet, after market lights, apexi ecu, FMIC, full zaust, tinited windows big wheels, lowered. over 300 bhp.

And all declared, they just keep dropping the price for renewal:)

maybe its a sign I am getting old and drive like a grandad.

But as Elford_Tim says make sure you check out mods with them first.

They don\'t like under 25\'s on classic policy\'s. The guy even told me that they only insure RX7\'s older the 1989...

elford_tim

Well, I\'m not exactly a young whippersnapper myself and my car\'s got a similar list of mods as Eddie\'s. Still, a year ago Suretem told me they wouldn\'t insure it at all. The FC is on a classic policy (which did take the usual annoying bit of haggling when it came to renewal time) but the FD wasn\'t supposed to be.

Oh well, the insurance on the FC is due pretty soon again so I think it\'s time for that part of the annual phoneaton...

hmmm well I\'ll be 29 when the policy is due to start and they won\'t do me a classic policy....

I mean this is getting a little silly - I don\'t mind paying for a car, paying to keep it nice, paying for petrol (well yes I mind the current prices) but the 30-50p per mile for insurance?!?!
