Now check this car out;http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/330769.htm

Its listed twice at present on piston heads as above and on page 5 too.  how quickly they have put a rebuild engine in it with few days  for cheap?:2Rolleyes   This car has changed hands few times now; on e-bay and piston heads and still going.  This is a prime example of people killing the market for fd\'s by doing deals like these to make quick couple hundred quids.:3Confused

he said it had something to do with old american muscle cars being expensive as people had grown up with them but never had a chance to own them and therefore the next genertion of drivers would pay up 50k for a decent stock supra...  personally i dont see that happening
Bear in mind RX7Club is a US based site, so that may not be entirely relevant in the uk ;)

I can see that happening, but it\'ll be another 15-20 years down the line. American musclecars used to be very reasonably priced about 15 years ago and really good ones have gone through the roof in the past 3-4 years. But these are cars that are in incredible condition - they are literally better than new, and I\'m not talking about the ebay version of "better than new", but cars that have panel gaps which are way better than what Detroit ever managed, show paintjobs and are correct down to the little colour marks put on various parts during the assembly. Oh, and they\'re sporting without fail the very rarest combinations of options, biggest engines etc. These cars are now bought by the people who lusted after them when they were new and can afford to throw a big wedge at a car.

But keep in mind that the more vanilla models are still comparatively affordable  - people can still afford to buy a 60s Mustang, but most people can\'t afford a Shelby GT500 or a Boss with a 428ci engine, because the latter two command mega-money.

In fact, I do expect similar things to happen with Japanese performance cars, but it\'ll be way down the line. Say, those members of ours who want an FD now but can\'t afford one, or at least not to keep it very long. I wouldn\'t be surprised if some of them will want another one 20-30 years down the line once the kids left for good.

That said, if you intend to make any money out of it I\'d guess the storage fees are going to eat up all potential gains :).

Yep, would make a big difference, not many left hooker RX7\'s about while there\'s are loads that are RHD from Japan.

Woah a car with a rebuilt engine for 4k?! What the hell are they doing? (other than undercutting everyone) I remember seeing that car as well a few times Laeeq the nasty red grill reminds me.

This proves just how stupid its getting most builders charge around 3k for a rebuild but lets say he did it himself? parts are what 1.5k? (depending on whats needed, and to what level its done) the car cost what another grand and half? (which i cant really see happening)

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/302974.htm Well it looks like it sold for 2.4k with a "good" engine that was compression tested.
I woof in your general direction.

Jit

oh yawn...what a surprise...the old stuck record returns. I think someone geneuinely beleives they are some sort of martyr for thier cause and that they would rescue every FD given the opportunity....

Leon - its not rebuilt dude.... that initial ad youve posted was my ad...the engine was good. There is a receipt in the car for a used engine at rotechniks but not a rebuilt one hence why my ad says "good" engine.
The car hasnt had a rebuild.

FD3SNuttah

ive decided that due to the market never to sell my rx7. problem solved!

leon

Jit - Fair snuff, just got that impression from the next advert posted by laeeq that it had. :Tongue1
QuoteIt had the engine rebuild not long ago costing £4000 so it still has plenty of life left in it.
The advert you did was fair and i think what you said at the end was true, you wont find a running rx7 for less! :yes

Jit

when i sold it, it was a bloody good engine....now....im not too sure....
as has been pointed out, that car has changed hands a few times in the last 3 months (3 times i beleive...once when i bought it, then again when i sold it and again when it was sold on again....i do reckon it was overheated by the guy who got it from me when he ignored my warnings to change the rad)

id take 3800 for it, if its gonna be less than that due to these price dropping mother truckers then id rather put it at the back of my garage an in 13years when my lad is old enough to drive il pull the sheet back and show him what cars were like when they had wheels and you had to put this petrol type stuff in lol

Try not to take this the wrong way, but going back 3 years or so ago the average FD price was about 8K.  Now its dropped to about 4-5K.

Fair enough, you paid 4K to buy yours 18 month ago and due to continuing depression in the market you will loose a bit, but there are plenty of us just takin it on the chin.  This was a 30K odd sports car when new for gods sake!  You bought cheap, why cant others now?

I think the other problem is: someone looks as the price for a well done single turbo\'d rex and then the price of a bog standard one. They go for the bog standard one thinking "4k, that\'ll do me"....then they think, "Oh, i\'ll just add this, or just do that"....then they turn it into a single turbo monster at huge cost.....then turn around and say, "Hhmm maybe I should have bought that single turbo\'d one from before...it was fantastic value for money" of course....once they have learnt what most of us have already.

People don\'t always think that enthusiasts such as ourselves re-search the best way (allbeit, not the same way) to do these cars. True, you can never trust that the person before you has taken the time you would do...but that is remedied by a quick search...

So my point would be not to cut corners...use a bit of common sense...

Exactly.  People listen to \'horror stories\' and the majority of the population, when faced with a ford and an rx7, will opt for the ford due to what they perceive to be reliability.

And I still see RS Cosworths knocking around for over fifteen grand!  It\'s a good lil car, but it\'s not fifteen grands\' worth.  That happened when I sold my bike last time around, because most people ride ten miles a year seemingly, and I ride ten thousand, I had to sell a 6 grand bike for £three and a bit  because the mileometer read four thousand miles more than most bikes in the country in the same condition. Go figure.  The second hand market is a frustrating place to be man, people are buying for \'reliability\' and economy. I buy because I want to tinker and burn fuel at an alarming rate.  There aren\'t many people like me around though...

You got a site full of here for your guide :Hammer

But you\'d think that if someone decided on getting an RX-7...and they researched it just a little, that they would either want a standard twin turbo with a rebuilt engine (even though when they hear, rebuilt engine they switch off and don\'t realise it\'s not a bad thing) or something that has been done..

Anyway...mine\'s up for sale, a beautiful rebuilt single turbo so feel free to treat yourself someone :chat

trevtubby

surely its only a matter of time before getting a rebuild simply isnt going to be worth it?

If freshly rebuilt RX7`s are selling for 5/6kish....and the cost of a rebuild can easily reach 4k, its simply not worth getting the engine rebuilt when the time comes...you would only make maybe 1/2k max. Would be more cost effective to simply sell for spares....

Or set it on fire and claim on the insurance :xconfused :(

Either way, unless the price of rebuilds come down (which aint going to happen) it does seem like its only a matter of time before a lot of these great cars simply get broken for spares :(

i think u have hit the nail on the head if a good car goes for 6k and a blown one 2k for spares then paying 3-4k for a rebuild just isnt worth it as its not to say it will sell anyway
as it is i doubt i wld get more than 12k for mine and that has had shedloads done to it
i have worked out i could get about 10 for it if broken and not have to bother with tyre kickers
