Hi guys,i could do with your advice:eek:
I bought the mk1 Rx7 off mrbishi,cost £1600 & i\'m happy with it.
I was also looking at a 1st generation series 3 RX7,but i thought it overpriced @£5500 ono.
Its only done 38000 miles,is immaculate, red & everythings standard. Its a B reg/1985,rotechniks have described it as in the top 3 of its marque in the country.
I offered the guy £4000,he said no way,but hes come back to me & will accept £4000[£1500]off his original asking price.
He had the car up for sale a couple of weeks before xmas, not a good time to sell a car!!
Mileage is genuine, condition is top notch.
Is it worth £4k,do you reckon??????????????:xconfused
Problem is i love the mark1 ive got, arghhhhh.
Let me know what you think?:xconfused :god :wave
Cheers stuart....

the mk1 is a rare car now, i have seen a lot of s3\'s try to make big money, i would say it depends on what you want from the car, if it is a very good origional car and you want to keep it for say 10 years it may be a good investment but if you want to enjoy a classic car stick with the s1 you have, as its not standard it wont hold its money like the s3 IMO

I think Mark has pretty much sumed it up if you want a car to use then stick with what you\'ve got. The other car you will be scared to let out of your site if you take it out anyware. But by the same token could prove to be a wise buy if you can keep it mint and low mileage. It is really down to what you want the car for.

Thanks for advice guys.
The mk1 i have can easily be made standard & i know a supplier in Oz who has most parts for it in stock brand new.The mk1 is very clean & tidy with just a few bubbly spots, the paint is very, very good as are electrics, gearbox & engine even though its done 122k,i suspect something must of been done to the engine as it pulls so well & dosent smoke.
I will only do 1500 miles per year maximum,& i intend to keep an RX7 untill i\'m 6ft under!!Only reason i would sell is if a business abroad i\'m working on took up all of my time & i had to emigrate.
SO to sum it up,i will only do 1000>1500 miles a year,so which car is likely to be worth more in say 10>15 years.
The rarity of a mk1 with much higher mileage & made standard throughout or the mint mk3 still with a low mileage in 10>15 years of approx 50000>55000 on the clock!!!
Sorry its not the most exciting thread, but both these cars i love with my heart,so maybe i should think with my head, thats where your knowledge/perception/foresight etc would be handy!!:Thumbs-up
MPK490P...........Your thread was interesting on the build of your car, youve put a lot of work into it,lovely car!:3gears-rh

My take on it would be that a mint car is easier to keep that way, hence it\'d be more likely to appreciate in value or at least keep its value.

IMHO the mileage is not the be-all and end-all as very low mileage cars do come with their own sets of problems, caused by them standing around for too long. I\'ve made the mistake (twice!) of buying a low-mileage classic and in both cases had to spend quite some money just to undo all the problems caused by the car standing.

We\'ve got a very late series 3 with 49000 miles on the clock. It was 10th from the last VIN No. so I figure last days production in Hiroshima. Similarly Dave Collins has that lovely S3 that featured in October 2007 performance car, with 52000 miles or so on the clock. I reckon ours is worth £3750 or thereabouts so yes, £4000 for a real minter is not unreasonable.
The point is, we wouldn\'t sell ours, not even for higher offers, so if one comes up that\'s so good and you really want a car that will be a stunner for years to come, you sometimes have to push the boat out.
In reality, from what I\'ve read on some of the FD posts, £3000 or thereabouts will only buy a good engine rebuild and one guy spent \'000\'s on an FB leather retrim, so it\'s all relative.

Also, it\'s been said already that you can keep a minter tidy fairly easily. Plus I wouldn\'t worry about using it or parking it in car parks. We\'ve never had an FB touched in 20 odd years! The FB seems to get respect.
Last year we were in Hull Centre and I told some patrolling foot police that our little car was all alone and frightened in the local off-street car park. They only went out of their way to check on it! Hows that!

Thanks guys.
Sounds like £4k for the mint s3 is not unreasonable.
I\'ll have a good think!!:Thumbs-up

Hi as the owner of a low mileage first gen I must admit I do worry about leaving it in car parks but then again I may be a bit paranoid. Can I suggest that if you do buy it and it has been stood for a while then change all the hoses as mine were as hard as rock and the tyres were also starting to crack with age. Also changed filters, battery, oil and coolant etc and now going through all the suspension bushes etc as these all perish with age even when not used.

The car is used on sundays by present owner & is taxed & mot\'d.
I,m having another look at it tomorrow, its only 11 miles from my place.
I\'ll check hoses etc, still has original exhaust on with all the associated pollution attachments.

A mint one is easily worth the £4k :yes

You won\'t regret it :D

Keep the S1.  Just that little bit classier (I\'ve an S3, so S3 owners, please don\'t take that the wrong way!!).
Everyone wants to be like ArchBish,

I do prefer the styling of the mark 1.
Difficult choice as the s3 is immaculate,it needs nothing & as i work frequently abroad is probably the sensible choice,as i wont have much time to fiddle around with cars!!!
Heart says s1,little brain says s3.
I\'m off to look at s3 again today.
Oh if only i had unlimited deep pockets & the space i would have both of them!!
Back to reality with a bump!
Cheers for your thoughts/advice:Thumbs-up

Right, I\'m a yob in a car park. Thinks...
This funny Mazda thing might go a bit.
I can get in here ever so easy.
I can easy break the steering lock.
Wheres the bonnet catch..... quick..... can\'t find it! ...Aah there it is.
WTF!!!!!
Right now, I\'m a smart boy, so I can try and start it.... Something\'s wrong with the automatic choke.....
Right, I\'ve found out it\'s a manual choke and the engine is up and down like crazy. It\'s stalled pulling away!!!
Finally... I can\'t turn the steering wheel, \'cos my arms can only work playstation buttons...
Oh leave it here!!
