Hi Everyone, So I got my RX7 started this morn, after it arrived from the docks last week. Used a battery pack and got her started. Now once working, i\'ve found that it has a Knightsports EBS III thingy. My sheet from Japan just says it is a turbo timer, but I\'ve searched here on MRC, and it does much more!!

But no one actually says exactly what it does. I\'m assuming a turbo timer, I can see it has a digital boost gauge mode, does it control boost as well? Can it be fitted to a standard ECU?

Thanks Grinder, but that Link is broken (maybe cos I\'m at work) it comes up with an error.

Does anyone else know some more?

grinder

yeah its a dead link - but its a boost controller - so this controllers your boost - should work fine with a stock ECU

if you dont want it - stick it in a jiffy bag and post it to me - i will make use of it :D

Haha! No way buddy, :p  I quite like it as a digital boost gauge.

Can anyone give me the manual? or tell me how to program the turbo timer?

leon

Dont give it away! its worth a pretty penny! this is what i got from knightsports:

QuoteAs to the hose connected,
EBS3\' s boost control valve,
Top : connect hose to intake manifold or compressor housing(boost)
Side : connect the hose to actuator swing valve
Bottom : free
Also you need to connect the hose(about 4mm dia) to EBS3(silver box).

As to switch on EBS3(silver box)

S-P switch : S:Swing valve
P:Poppet valve
N-W switch : N:Narrow range, the boost is quickly to rise, overshoot will happen.
W: Wide range, the boost is slowly to rise, overshoot will not happen.
First you have to set "W".

Volume dial : set at 12:00
If the boost is not stability, first you need to set the dial 7:00. next gradually turn right the dial.
If the boost is stability on "W" range, you need to also set the boost on "N" range(same way)
Finally "W" or "N", the best condition you use.

As to control pad,

Mode switch push once: boost set mode(you can set the boost using up or down button)
next: off set mode(a little boost set)
next: boost gauge mode

Power switch once : LED lights "-", sports mode.
next : LED doesn\'t light "-", normal mode.

Finally, you finished to install EBS3 assy, you drive the car to check the normal boost carefully.
(then EBS is power off)
Next you need to set the boost to consultation the above way.

thank you

I do have the manual but its in jap i was going to scan it and send it to a member but have not got around to it yet!:o it is however just a boost gauge, there is one function on there however that i have not figured out what does hence the reasons for sending the manual to him :)

Thanks Leon, looks like we\'ve got some translating to do!

To sound completely silly, what am I looking for in the engine bay? on one of the intercooler pipes, there should be a attachment with a turning knob?

I just don\'t want to overboost it - Not yet anyway.... :Nono!

leon

nothing in the engine bay unless you have the stand alone solenoid version (doubtful)  The boost controller works by using the existing solenoids,  I found my boost controller slung underneeth the drivers side of the dash, easy way is either follow the vac hose to it or the cable from the dash mounted gauge :Laugh

its a big silver box with EBS3 on a gold sticker, should have a blue knob and two switch\'s

Ahhh, right. I have nothing like that, only the controller mounted on the steering wheel pod, with four buttons. What setting should I set the boost at?

leon

you will have the box its just hidden :) that controller on the dash is wired directly into the silver box, i have mine set at 0.70 wich is measured in KG/CM2 so i think thats roughly standard boost level  :Thumbs-up

Oh and the other option (the one i dont know what it does) is left at default value of 0.00 :D

:Grrr Still having trouble with this guys, I can\'t seem to get the EBS to actually run as a turbo timer! I turn the key off, and it just shuts down. Which mode setting am I looking for that adjusts the time it will idle for? :xconfused

leon

Try all you want, its not a turbo timer :( or if it is i havnt seen it mentioned anywhere.
