I have been looking for an RX7 and im trying to decide between two cars.

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/201610.htm

or

http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/sales/276973.htm

now iv seen the black one in the flesh and i have a few doubts about the car.
The motor pulls excellent no smoke on boost or on start up. (slight sweet smell while on boost when your going along though)

its only got 41000KM on the clock, but some how the overall body condition is giving me doubts about the millage (24000). its a bit tatty on the outside, and i feel its either had a very hard 24000 miles or its not the whole truth.
The front bumper doesnt look lined up correctly and it has a few scrapes etc. also the turbo had a little bit of play so was rebuilt when the guy imported it. compression was said to be between 7.1 and 7.3.

Overall the cars got the power etc and felt tight, just would need me to spend a bit of money to get the body how id like it.

Now for the white car which i have yet to view.
Its got all the positives body wise, just isnt a single turbo. so is about 70rwhp down on the black car. also the engine was rebuilt 20,000 miles ago, and shows higher compression results. (another reason im dubious about the black cars milage) It just seems the more honest car. Obviously i need to see this car in the flesh, its just i want some opinions on what you feel is the better way to spend 7000 pounds on a 12 year old car!

Iv been in a couple of rx7\'s and both have felt completely different, i have been in a non sequential and now the single. i liked the single more.
I think maybe i need more bum in seat time and see a few more examples as they do seem to vary alot in the overall feel of the car.

if anyone has a twin sequential i can have a sit in, id much appreciate it as it would give me an idea if the sequentiasl with about 280rwhp would be enough for me. I live in hertfordshire by the way.
But more importantly any advice on first impressions on what i have said would be very helpful

sorry about the long post, i just want to get the right car, so it doesnt end up  being a poor experience in the long run.

erm, actually...ive just looked at that black one, and it looks like a bargain! never seen such a nice sped`d single turbo for that sort of price with that sort of mileage. Is that the mileage on the engine or on the car itself?

not a fan of the bonnet, stickers or skirts etc...but it does seem like a good deal.

Plus, if you get the black one, I get to keep mine :D hehe. (as i`m really having second thoughts about selling her lol).

Lol i tended to buy cars on instinct in the past, and I used to sell them for a living. I hope u dont change your mind about selling as I called you yesterday to arrange to make the long trip up in a few weekends time when I\'m not racing karts, infact I\'m racing at P.F.international in linconshire. :-)
While your here LOL what tein coilovers have you got on the car? Also what are the tires like?

trevtubby

I know mate, I guessed it was you :)

your more than welcome to come up and have a look mate, you wont be dissapointed. I love the car to bits though, most people on here will say its over priced, but..you get what you pay for I suppose. I looked at a LOT of rx7`s before i bought mine, there are a lot of dogs about.

But I still do think that black one looks like a good deal, although not many pics and no engine pics....I like clean looking engines haha.

They coilovers are TEIN HA`s, so not the top spec one`s, but are very good none the less, height and damper adjustable. Tyres are all good, lots of tread left :)

Its a very fast car, but as with many imports you have to use your head not your heart. The millage is too good to be true and doesn\'t match overall condition IMO. I dunno it maybe a great deal but the markets slow so I have no need to rush into a sale If my instints say no.
Your car is at the top end of the twins price but condition is worth paying for. I paid alot for my celica but it too was pampared and a celica club owners car. That\'s what I like to buy as I find they cost you less in the long run.

Absolutely agree with you mate. Had the car for over a year now and ive spent well over 3k on it. But, 99% of that was spent on modifications, NOT repairs. Its been pretty much faultless.

I love it :)

Buying a single that has all the mods done makes so much sense, I have spent about 20 grand on my car including buying it, to get it to the current spec, and still haven\'t had my bodykito fitted !!

Single turbo rex\'s are awesome cars, so you are doing the right thing by getting one.

The black one looks ok, doesn\'t mention anything about fuel system though, so might want to ask about that.

I just had too many doubts over its history in japan, after looking at the car.
Head over heart as you say.
I will know when i see the right car. A single turbo with imaculate bodywork for 7K would be my ideal. but this isnt going to happen. Id rather spred the cost of upgrading the motor over time.
