I had forgotten how much fun the vert is...

Thanks to the grotty weather and the fact that I\'ve been away, I barely remembered that I owned a convertible. When I finally pulled it out of its garage on Sunday (with the usual dead battery, grrr) I realised that the last time I used it was at the Retroshow. Oops.

Anyway, had a nice Sunday bimble around Kent with the roof down. Hope it wasn\'t the last one this year but you could get that impression...

Anyway, question for the vert experts - was there such a thing as a bag for the \'targa\' part of the roof? I assume that the tiedown straps in the boot are to hold it down, right?

sorry for the hijack tim, but was it you I saw on the A2 coming down to canterbury on Sunday?  If so the vert looked very tidy, certainly got me thinking.

BTW I was the guy in the cosmo!

Nope, wasn\'t me - we went out to Sissinghurst to see the gardens there and then a little round through the country.

Hi Tim :wave

Yes there\'s a black PVC bag to protect and store the "Targa" roof section in.  It\'s a bit like the Mazda tool kit bags, but it has some padding from what I can remember.

The straps in the boot are as you say designed to tie the targa roof section down - it\'s a pain to get it in though (very tight fit and has to be the correct way up and round) and then you can\'t put anything else on top of it (it warns you in the handbook to avoid damaging it)!  So you\'re storage/transit space is severely limited :(

I\'ve never driven my cab without the targa bit maybe it\'s a new experience thing for 2008! :) (Has anyone else tried it?)...

I must try it, but it strikes me as a bit un-aerodynamic having the rear section up. It reminds me of one of the old pram hoods too! A bit weird really! :eek   I guess that Mazda must have thought out the air flow very carefully though as they developed the RX7 windblocker that Porsche and everyone else later copied - and the targa roof position is another roof position option - so it must have been well wind-tunnel researched?

Perhaps we should all turn up "targa" roof section less at the next meet - sunny day of course - it would be quite an unusual look for the cabs and one that not many of us use! :)

Right, so that\'ll be another little piece missing from my car by the looks of it.

Anyway, I wasn\'t planning to drive just with the rear of the roof up in targa mode - I would hope that they checked it in the wind tunnel but I\'d still be worried that I\'d damage the roof. Which, as all of us vert-afflicted people know, isn\'t exactly what you\'d call a cheap experiment.

I was more thinking along the lines that taking out the targa roof would possibly result in a slightly cleaner line of the car, but then again, if all you can carry in your boot is the targa section, that would be rather pointless.

I don\'t need to upgrade my stock turbo to beat your ass!
