Was driving up to Northumberland from Hull on Friday night for my works xmas night party. Had my best mate in the car with me (fooking gorgeous she is :) ). Anyhoo, just got on to the M62 (middle lane, about 80mph) and suddenly BANG!!!

Knew what had happened straight away, dropped her into neutral and let her coast onto the hard shoulder. Got out to have a looksee, nearside rear completely destroyed, the only rubber left attached was a thin band round both inner and outer rims. Fortunately the traffic was light, guy in a merc on the inside lane shat it though - think he was more scared than I was as he seen it explode!!

Overall, no major damage, need a new front strut brace \'cos that got rubber ducked when she got pulled onto the back of the recovery truck (no other way of attaching cable), and I don\'t even wanna think about the state of the underside of the front bumper! I couldn\'t watch as she got hauled up the ramp :(

have to be pragmatic though, it could\'ve been a LOT worse, both me and Lou were fine, the rest is just material damage which can be fixed.

got a cracking pic of the trashed tyre on me moby which i\'ll put up when I get home.

blow outs are rubbish!!! not a nice feeling at all, even worse though when they turn up to collect you with the wrong kind of low loader. When you speak to them on the phone its doesn\'t matter how much you say "ITS REALLY LOW" they still seem to send out something that can get it out without damaging it!

Glad to hear that nothing worse came of it.

T got a spare strut brace at home you can have its an original one, glad both ok

The worse thing was the signs were all there!!!
Felt a bit of a wobble from the arse earlier in the day, but it went away. Came back later on the same bit of road so assumed it was just the surface.
had a quick look at the tyres before I left and couldn\'t see anything wrong.

just before the blow, it was like the wind was pushing her off course, with hindsight it was obviously the tread starting to disintegrate...telling you - you haven\'t lived until you\'ve been up the motorway sideyways!!

i know, the loader bit was horrific, I had to walk away down the hard shoulder - couldn\'t bear to watch it!

- Pete, that would be ace, it was an original that got ruined. How much you want for it??

Thats the one Pete mate, i don\'t think it s done any damage to the turrets, just the brace has been chewed through!

I shall happily take that of your hands! :Thumbs-up  i\'ll give you a call over the next few days...quite busy with work at the mo\'.

I have to give you something for it, even if it\'s just a cheeky wee bottle of something! whats your weapon of choice?

Tyre pressures - fortnightly check and always before a long fast trip. The car was telling you earlier, "check me tyre pressures please".
Doctor\'s recommendation if you keep shxxing yourself at the wheel A good pressure gauge and footpump for Christmas.
Sorry if it sounds patronising, but I\'ve a real fear of blowouts. Tyre area on the road is tiny and we all do 80 on them.

- David, no offence taken mate. I do check the pressure regularly - but will be doing once a week from now on. Would really like to never have that experience again!

Don\'t worry, it\'s a hard lesson well learned. Got off VERY lightly i reckon :O

Cheers mate, just done our 2 cars this morning before logging on because it\'s a week or so and the temperature\'s dropped sharply. the FB is a bit leaky on a couple of its tyres but I compensate by checking and pumping up weekly on that car. Glad you don\'t mind old geezer trying to play the expert.

Kevin

I may of missed something, but wouldnt it of been easier to jack it up and put the spare on than all the hassle of getting it on a tow wagon?

trotter

- David, not at all, sometimes it takes the older ones to keep us young \'uns in check! And i\'m not about to start giving anyone grief for offering constructive advice! :D

- Kevin, would have been a much better idea, but flawed on three counts, the space saver that is in the car won\'t fit with the wheel size I have (would ruin diff), don\'t have a jack in car, and even if I did, the cars too low to get one under!  lol lol
