Sorry mate if your fd reved to 11k in that state of tune it would most likely be toast. My old yellow car [the RSR] in its last [presant] guise had a totaly different engine the Cosmo 13BRE, considerable work was carried out internaly and the rev limit was set at 9K, peak power was hit at 8250 [465 atw] and ran a VERY large extended street port. I have never seen a stock[ish] exceed 155mph so I would guess that bit of kit in the car is VERY suspect.
Good luck with your ownership, but dont expect anything wonderfull if that bit of kit is telling the truth:confused:

it could just be an electrical glitch caused by the battery running low on the boat from jap. how does it run?

runs fine. 221kph is only about 140-145mph. I don\'t know why the peak rpm is so high but that is peak (which means it only had to read that once) it might be a problem with the unit could be anything. Either way will have to do a health check on the motor probably early next year. I wonder if it was ever on the wrong setting ie for a 4 cylinder engine instead of rotary that would give an inacurate tacho.

Quote from: TimmyBigger turbos need more exhaust gasses too spool so higher revs are need to keep the turbo spooling otherwise you\'d get masses of lag between each gear change.

Not intending to critisize, but your statement is misleading. An engine\'s RPM does not govern a turbo\'s spool time or how long it might take to produce effective positive pressure. This is soley governed by the Turbo\'s efficieny range, the amount of heat produced in the exhaust gas, the exit velocity and the expansion rate.

That\'s far too much technical information to absorb on a Monday. Very interesting though, when I get back from work I may try to take it in again!

With any luck it is just some kind of electronic gremlin. I have a performance-logging device that uses G-force to measure all sorts of things and that sometimes displays figures that are totally inaccurate (despite being spot-on most of the time) and I read this month in evo that the Fast Fleet LP640 apparently hit 249mph on the road, according to its computer!! Let\'s hope something similar happened in your case, and someone hasn\'t put it into 3rd at 140mph!! :Hammer

As John Y said earlier - downshifting and hitting 11k rpm would almost certainly lunch something in the car... either the engine or gearbox.  It\'s likely to be a glitch in the electronickery.

I did look at the mods required to up the rev limit significantly and the first 1000rpm doesn\'t require a huge amount of work - maybe ~£1k with a tuner on top of a rebuild!  Pushing it up to 10k is a much bigger job and beyond that is huge.

I\'m talking about mods that would allow it ro run those revs for racing etc.

As said by others - you\'re better off upping the boost and freeing up flow than raising the rev limit masses on a turbo car.

Saying that though - once you open up the porting the peak power arrives a bit later so more headroom would potentially give you access to the fattest part of the power band.

9k would certainly suit mine but at 8k engine life should be decent enough!
