I think (may be wrong here) that ALL FDs have the 13B-REW powerplant, just at slightly different states of tune. None of the engines had modifications (as standard) that would allow an 11k rpm limit.

The RS-R was built to commerorate 30 years of the rotary engine, but didn\'t have any significant engine differences to the other variants released at that time - which included an RZ, RS, RB and RB. Bathurst. What was special about the RS-R is that you could only have one in black or yellow (competition yellow mica I think) and they had anthracite-coloured wheels as standard. They\'re incredible rare, as only 500 were built I think, between 1997 and 1998.

Oh and the RS-R also had the awesome Bilstein suspension that was on the Series 4 RZ. Power was, I believe, 265PS at most as that was what the RZ was producing at that time.

As I said, I might be wrong so please don\'t shout at me - just putting what I think is true into the mix!!

What year is your FD, sounds like if it\'s not from 97-98 that\'ll answer the question about it being an RS-R :)

Lol, wtf are you on about Gurj?!

As FRDreamer said above, 13B-REW is the same motor as all FD\'s have, and the RS-R was just a commemarative ltd edition with a few bits chucked on.

No production engines were ever built to run any thing like 11K, I\'d guess your RSM is/was fubar\'d. Cant see why anyone wuould have the rev limit set that high so can only think that if it is a genuine 11K it was on a bad down shift or mis-shift in which case you\'re lucky nothings touched and done engine damage...

Im sure i read it somewhere unless it was a one off running 11K ??? deffo been mentioned

All stock FD engines were built the same. just ancilliaries etc were changed over the years...sorry big G...

We\'v had a car thats done 285kph at 8100rpm ;)

Both spot on.

Johns car (RSR) may have been capable of hitting 10k but that was with a lot of engine mods.

The only other item I can think of that made the RSR a little quicker was a 4.3 diff, giving a better low down acceleration. Stock diff is 4.1 and Auto 3.9 from memory.
Believe there are only 2 of these in country, a black one Ive seen at Trax and Johns old car now with Royal.

Quote from: Rzla11k ?
has it had a bridge port done or something ?
it has to be a single with a bridge to be hitting 11k, no ?

Neither of these mods have anything to do with getting a Rotary to rev to 11k.

As others have said, all FDs have 13B REW , and they are all pretty much the same engine.

If it\'s hit 11,000 rpm then Tim rxmotors must of been driving:bandit

this link even say 13b-rews are from fd\'s

Anyway i will have to see why the peak revs are so high. It\'s probably a bad shift down as said above. i would have thought the limiter wouldn\'t be set high enough to rev it that high under accelaration.

so some rotary engines are able to rev to 10 or 11k, normal ones like mine of course go to 8k, how do you get them to rev higher?? and safely?? it sounds like 11k is a little extreme but how about a little higher than standard?

You will notice there is a massive difference between the two engines for the FD

That thread is showing the difference between the FC3S 13BT engine and the FD3S 13B-REW engine.

Boys, do your research properly before it ends in tears!

Its not easy.
You would start by purchasing a book called "how to modify your RX-7" from Mazdatrix. There are lots of internals that need strenghtening. The main problems are the centrifugal force of the Rotor can cause the Eccentric shaft to bend and then the Rotor can touch the housing. Then the apex seals have a lot more centrifigul force against the housing, too. Another problem is harmonic vibration which can cause the through bolts to snap.

etc,etc.

Now lets ask why would you want to push the revs up? In an NA car, sure, you get more power.

In a Turbo car, there\'s not much point. Probably far cheaper to modify to accept more boost, then up the boost.

Timmy

Bigger turbos need more exhaust gasses too spool so higher revs are need to keep the turbo spooling otherwise you\'d get masses of lag between each gear change.
