Guys, I know this subject has been enquired about again and again, and theres been loads of threads about it, but Ive been searchign for hours and I still cant get a definitive answer.

My coolant level is marked at the \'low\' point in the AST.  The coolant level is a good 4 inches down below the foller cap by the alternator.  I fill via the cap by the alternator to the top, it accepts the smallest amount, and doesnt drop or balance out with the AST.  Not suprisingly, the AST still reads low.

Ive read several threads like this:

...but it doesnt clarify the situation at all.  At the moment I have to add a thimble of water every time the engines topped, until eventually the level reach\'es something of a normal level as marked in the AST? Surely theres a better way to do this?

Please help, even pointing me in the direction of a coherent thread answer would do! ...becuase I feel a prize muppet just askig how to top coolant up on my car!!

Here we go, hopefully this helps /

Leave the cap on the AST and forget about it also don\'t go near the cap on the drivers inner wing.

Only top the car up via the filer on the engine and the other two will sort themselves as regards levels

If you put too much water in the system via the other caps it will often push out more water than is desirable whilst it struggles to find it\'s desired level again !,

Please never be afraid to ask any thing on MRC as the only dumb question is the one you don\'t ask that causes you grief.

So I should just check the filler cap (on the engine) and check that its near the top, and work with that.

I presume I\'d simply think of the \'Low\' and High\' in the AST simple as a \'level of spare water\' as apposed to a \'level in the system\'? ...and therefore now need to check it all that often.

You shouldn\'t open the cap on the AST at all

I think he\'s getting the AST confused with the overflow tank in the inner wing.

The AST has no High or Low marks does it.

...ah yes your right I am - only just remembered AST\'s \'Air Seperation Tank\'. Yes, I was refering to the overflow tank in the inner wing, the cap has a plastic dipstick attached.
