obviously the standard oil preasure guage is beter at telling you the weather than the oil pressure so wanted to replace this
but can you get one that looks the same to go in same place but actualy work?

arrouk

i think the problem is the sensor not the gauge, so if you were to replace the sensor it may be more accurate????

i find that mine works fin untill the oil needs changing, then anything under 1/2 gauge it just reeds 0.

ok that makes life easyer
so can you get beter sensors?

Spartacus

You can change the gauge and sensor but keep the front face of the dial so it will look exactly the same.

I don\'t think you actually need to change the gauge if you\'ve got a properly working sensor.

I\'ve got both the stock gauge and a Défi hooked up, the stock gauge is fed by a new OEM sender unit and the gauges pretty much agree - my gut feeling is that the difference can be pretty much explained away by the different sender mounting locations.

Hi Guys,
Where is the best place to get a replacement sender unit from?

can you remove the sensor from the engine and keep the wiring to the gauge?  or does the sensor and wiring need to be replaced?  i was looking at doing the gauge swap to keep mine oem but if it is only really the sensor then that saves a lot of hassle as id rather not have to take the dash/cluster out again any time soon!

As long as you use an OEM sensor you shouldnt have a problem

why do the stock sensors fail? and how do you tell if it is working? my gauge goes up and down like a yo-yo, mostly following the revs, but at idle is sometimes sits at zero and sometimes fluctuates in the middle somewhere - i ignore it as a result.

While we\'re at it. I don\'t have an oil temperature gauge so I use the water temperature (on the PFC) to assess whether the car is hot or not...is this enough? surely oil temperature would result in a knock on water temperature so if the water is at normal operating temperature (85) then the oil is not overly hot?

The yo-yo bit is a good indicator that the sensor is duff - that\'s what mine did as well.

It takes a lot longer for the oil to come up to temperature than the water - on mine the Defi suggests water > 80C after about a mile, but the oil is just about nudging the 80C mark when I get to the station four miles away. By then, the water will be around 82-85C which is the normal running temperature for my FD, but it can take the oil up to 7-8 miles to reach 90C.

if you replace the sensor with a new oem sensor whats to stop it failing in the same way? or was the sensor revised in any way?  i do see some aftermarket sensors about, but would they not attach to the gauge or if you buy a defi sensor would you need a defi gauge also?

there was an autopsy on a duff oil press sender on clubrx.org site a while back, seems the common fault is seized internals due to temp.
