Hello!

My name is Joni and i\'m new here. I come from Finland and have been browsing this site for a week or so. I hope my english isn\'t too bad to read.

I\'m looking to buy an rx fd3s yealy next year when the worst winter time is gone. Been looking one from the Uk as it\'s quite easy to import it here. Japan is one option aswell. We never had the fd model here (fc was sold here tho).

My main consern is th engine side as i\'ve seen some stories of the engines that don\'t last too long. e.g. driven like 100 000 km\'s or so. could i get some sort of info about this situation. it\'s a little hard for me to go test drive all the cars as i mostly see them on the net and have to decide from that basis. Ofcourse here the importers will let the buyer test drive and approve the car before buying it. (after the car has arrived to Finland ofcourse) I don\'t see that as a big problem if i have some basic info to ask from the sellers about the engines milage, compression results etc.

Another thing i was thinking is that how much a rebuilded engine would cost, approx? Let\'s say in the uk.

The idea is to modify the car anyway, so i\'m trying to seek a car that drops in the citeria according to the engine health.

I calculated that my price range for the car is between 8000â,¬ - 10 000â,¬. Is that too little money to start from? I have to reming you that the tax i have to pay from one is between 4000â,¬ and 6000â,¬ on top of the purchace price (plus freight costs) mentioned earlier. That\'s why i\'m trying to keep the purchase cost that low.

Hi Joni and welcome

Your English is better than our Finish so how can we complain, if fact it better then some of the english on here.

For the amount you are looking to spend you should be able to pick up a clean car with recent rebuild.
An average cost of rebuild over here would be approximately 4500euro to 6000euro, depending on performance extras.

There are not too many FD\'s over in Finland, but if you want I have a customer over there, with his permission I could pass his deatails on as he has also worked on his.

thanks mate. Sounds good to me. seen some cars at autotrader for like 5000-7000£ that have rebuilded engines.

Our laws have been against the jap imorts and the rules are now changed alot ( in the past year or two) but still we have problems with the mot inspections as we have stupid regulations on many things that are above EU. example is the skylines rear lights that are not e-approved = illegal.

The Rx-7 is my best bet as now we have lots of skylines compared to the 0 units we had few years ago. over 50 of them imported this year only. FD\'s are more rare than them. to be honest i have seen 2 of them in traffic in my whole life.

I have lots of Uk friends as i\'m a daihatsu charade enthustiast (now getting rid of it) and they are helping me on the RX E.G. helping with paper work, export etc when the time comes. just need some technical advice as i don\'t want to buy a "pig in the bag" if you know what i mean.

Hiya, would it be cheaper to bring one over from the UK? You could buy one and drive it home, through the port.

Yes that\'s the plan. I just need to see what routes are the best. I suppose there is some boats coming to northern Europe from Uk. Norway or Sweden would be nice as it\'s very straight forward drive to Finland from those two countries. The Netherlands or Germany are possible too but it would be quite expensive as i would need to travel alot longer distance or take another boat from there
