Hi there!

Just bought my UK spec rex a few days ago! sooo happy! :Thumbsup!

It has intake mods (filters and hard pipes), and a racing beat exhaust...my question is, do I need a pfc? My boost gauge goes to .9 at the most, which I know is higher than stock...is this safe for now? It does backfire quite a lot too...is this a concern?

I plan to install a new intercooler too at some point...will the ecu (stock or pfc) cope with this on the base map? Doesnt seem to be any local tuners around :(...any suggestions/opinions on self tuning would be cool too!

Lastly, does the front bumper supposed to have grills? Looks like something is supposed to be attached to the centre inlet...

Few things Im after too if anyone can help:
New oil coolers (the cooling fins on mine are mashed)
New track rod ends
Alloy ast - any recommendations?

Thanks alot!

Jon

Sorry for the long winded post!

Welcome to MRC Jon,

sounds like its running slightly rich, 0.9bar on stock twins is ok as i believe the stock setting is 0.85 ??? mine is a single tub so forget right now the exact setting for the twins.

May well require a remap and then all shall be well hopefully ?

Welcome Jon , if you are on a stock ecu then recommend power fc as mappable it does a certain amount of self learning but if you are modding better to get your parts together & go to a tuner for safety.Wgt at northwich & Lindop i think are around chester probably nearest - wgt also sell alloy AST.
Nice to see pics of your car when you have time

Stock boost is 10 psi or .7 of a bar.
It could well be that you are running lean on boost.
Maybe you do have an aftermarket ecu,but if it is a stock ecu that has been chipped by one of the tuners in Japan it will have something on it saying it has been played with such as Redom.
If that is the case then you are better off getting an Apexi ecu and getting it mapped for UK fuel as the Japanese can get higher octane fuel than us from the pump.

Thanks for the info! pfc it is then :mmmm

Know anywhere to buy them for a good price? Also, would I fail an mot (emissions) if I replace the pre-cat with a downpipe? (but keep main cat)

Thanks again! Will be a paid up member soon :D

My FD has a high-flow cat in it and being a JDM model, hasn\'t got a precat either.

No problem passing emissions, the readings were well low enough.

Thats awesome! Thanks! Just what I wanted to hear! :Laugh

Wait if it\'s uk spec it goes through a different test to a import as the tester will actual have a figure for emissions rather than the basic idle test that imports do.
Also correct me if i am wrong carl but being a ukspeck it is unlikley to have a jdm chipped ecu. But being a newbie i could be wrong, i also am unsure as to what sort of mods a oem ecu can handle.

Congrats on your purchase, Jon. I too have just bought a UK Spek FD, and loving it and i believe we have similar mods.
Mine has had the precat replaced with straight through and the main cat replaced by a highflow which now may not pass MOT, but I know it has passed with the standard main cat minus the pre cat, so definately get rid of the pre cat and you should be sweet.
I am also after an Apexi PFC and a place in london (NW) to do the install and map, if anybody knows a good place.
Anyway keep us up to date with how u go on modding ur UK RX. Do you have any rust yet?
Cheers
Steve

where abouts in NW London are you STeve? Looks like another for northweezy then....i make that atleast 12 FDs round NW

Welcome :cheers

Just stumbled across your thread while searching about Lindop (who? :Laugh).  Anyway thought I better point out there are tuners round M4corridor who would be closer to you than Lindop/WGT - think theres one in Reading and Newbury.

Funny how everyone assumes Wales is tiny :Nono! (as opposed to fairly small)

btw got an alloy AST from WGT, think it was about 90 quid and it seems to work ok
