My rear fog light is a re-wired reverse light painted red. Unforunatley its no longer working.

I\'ve switched the bulb to the other side and its working fine when I pick reverse so I know its not that.

I decided to remove the dash to check where the wiring was going to the switch and discovered and three wires to the switch had come loose ! I\'ve got one wire to ground, another wired in to a connector in the dash and the other running the length of the car to the light at the back. I plugged the ground back in and tried both combinations of the other two in the switch but no joy. All the wiring looks ok as its soldered in. Any ideas as to what might be going wrong or what to try next ? I\'m quite happy to buy a multimeter if I need to check voltages.

Thanks

Hi, for what its worth, have you checked it works with the headlights and the ignition on? Fog lamps at the rear are not supposed to work unless those are on.

Join the connector from the dash to the one going to the rear. and ur fog light should come on,  the earth is just to make the switch light up

As Cycadul said you might need the light or ignition on spending where the live is coming from. You could try connecting to a perminent live. Also check your earth at the light end. If it doesn\'t work than it your just left witht the switch being knackered.

Tried with the ignitiona nd lights on no joy, definitley not the bulb as it works on the other side when reverse is selected. Not sure which fuse its using now, I guess the reverse light fuse ? Bought a new switch and tried that still no joy :-( If only I knew how to use a multimeter !

Unlikely to be reverse light fuse as that would not have a connecter block behind the dash. Are your connections soldered or scotch locked? Is there anything else on your dash not working? If scotch locks give a sqeeze with pliers incase of bad connection (should be soldered). Failing that buy a meter or test light and i or someone else will run you through it.
