I\'ve been for an MOT and it failed on...

Offside headlamp not in good working order adversley affecting beam image.

I asked the guy at the garage and he said the pattern for the offside lamp wasnt right. I explained I\'d fitted HID\'s and he said you must have the bulb round the wrong way. Take the car home and check it against the nearside as that was working ok.

So I bought the car home and pulled off the rubber covering the bulbs, and both are fitted exactly the same way. In fact I\'m almost positive you cant fit them any other way as the prongs coming out of them wont fit any other way.

Any ideas ?

Thanks

Refit the normal lights for the MOT.

Yeah could do I spose although I\'m a little puzzled as to why they are failing as I know others have passed MOT\'s with them fitted. There is a definite difference in the beam pattern though between offside and nearside.

the bulbs will only fit one way,,what lights are u using

Bulla

Theyre the HID\'s Clive supplies.

then the beam cant be wrong as its the reflector that determines how the light is spread...if they are fitted correctly  can u post a pic of the bulb/hid capsule is there a shroud over the capsule maybe

Bulla

Ah right, I\'ll get out tomorrow and take some pics then cheers for the help.

Checked both the bulbs yesterday and the only difference I could see was that the reflector on the one thats ok was flush to the bulb, in the one with the bad pattern the reflector had come away from the bulb ever so slightly. I managed to bend it back up so it was running parallel again but when I switched them on the pattern still doesnt look right.

Might have to bite the bullet and just refit the old bulbs :(
