Anyone know where the switch where the handbrake light on the dash gets its signal from is? my cars been sat for a while and when ive taken it out although the handbrake engages / disengages correctly the light us stuck on.

grinder

mine did the same thing

the switch is on the back of the hand brake

take off the cover - spray lots of WD40 into it and it should sort it out just fine :D

The handbrake light is also the brake warning light - so have you checked the level of your brake fluid? (If the pads are getting low the fluid will be a little lower in the reservoir and the sensor will trigger)

Thanks for the tips. Ive wiggled, waggled and woggled the switch as well as dousing it in wd40 but no joy.

Took it for MOT anyway to hear the news and... failed, but only on wiper blades and the warning light to tell you the rear fog is on doesnt work... Which is mad considering I thought it was going to be far worse.

the fog light light is on the idiot cluster - were they looking in the right place - as its not an illuminated switch ??

depending on how you do it - it could be a 25p fix for the fog light - i just put a red LED that comes on when the fog light is on

dead easy - wire the led to the live side of the switch and earth it to the body :D

Well when I say it worked, it lit up... but not in relation to the fogs. I find it easier to not question these things too deeply when fixes involve digging out half the dashboard.

MOT certificate has now been awarded to the car! and the handbrake light fixed itself on the way home

Strange you should mention that with the Fog Light. Mine has a habbit of coming on all on it\'s own even though I have not touched the switch. As well as the dash lights having a mind of their too!
