Removing the ast?

K i know this has been covered before but iv got a greddy rad and a greddy fmic, can i safely remove the ast tank now? or am i still better going for a alloy ast? thing is once i relocate my battery to the boot, iv lost the bracket that its mounted to lol so guna look crap :P
The ast needs to sit higher than the rad dosnt it?
