Hi folks

Just picked up the Rex from WGT today after having new engine/turbo etc. installed..

I stoppped at services on way to Glasgow for a look over the engine and make sure there was nothing obviously loose etc...

There was a stream of smoke coming from the turbo that lasted for about 10mins. The pic below shows where it was coming from.

Is this the oil feed to the turbo? It looks like the gasket is gone and there was a bit of oil staining around the area.

Question is should I be worried..?????   drove home off boost anyhow.

i would check ur oil level quickly

CraigWWW

Just checked it...

Oil level looks ok... just  off the \'FULL\' mark.

Car has been stood for about an hour after long drive.

Yeah it does smell....????? Whats that mean?

new gaskets and sealants sometimes evaporate the solvents from them when new, but only for a short while.

CraigWWW

It was still smoking a bit after I got home...4 hrs later.

i chose the centre force dual friction because it gives near stock feel..i dont hold with the need for these bodybuilder clutches
the rex does not have huge torque and i dont feel it needs these undriveable clutches unless u are dragging or tracking the car
as u have just found out it makes u look like a plank infront of other drivers

First of all let\'s just clarify a few things.

I sold this complete 500+hp engine package to Craig out of my car complete with ecu intercooler, box etc. WGT were only responsible for fitting it into Craigs car.

It does sound like a gasket or loose bolt mate. The engine has been lifted, put on a pallet, transported 80miles taken off a pallet and fitted again so it is possible that the pipe MAY have had a tug or something.

There is also an oil return pipe with the same/similar fitting underneath the turbo. First thing to do is check the two bolts are torqued up properly on both. I do not know how tight they should be but Pip may well be able to give you a good idea. A very small amount of oil in this very hot area will give you lots and lots of smoke.

The clutch is NOT heavy. It is barely more than stock weight but the bite is small. You will get used to it. I drove it everyday and only the first couple o days did I have to think about it. Driving back in London traffic the first day was \'interesting\' though! Honestly it becomes second nature and you wont even give it a thought :)
When my wife first drove it I gave her a long speech about it, then had to sit there whilst she pulled off and stopped and started at lights etc without any problems at all and everytime she just looked at me as if I was an idiot, which is what I felt like. LOL.

Thanks Paul..

Just to clarify that I have absolutley no complaints about Pip or his work and service!!! They are all top notch!:yes

Yes... hes not the cheapest but for the piece of mind you get knowing you will get an honest answer, quick response and excellent workmanship from the guy working on your car is priceless!!!

I would recommend him to anyone...he even opened up the workshop on a Sunday for me to come down and collect my car and I had a guided tour!

...im sure I\'ll get used to the clutch soon...then its....:3gears-rh

My oil feed used to smoke a bit, I just tightened the bolts up and it was fine, its more of an annoyance rather than it causing any problems mechanicly so don`t worry, if your oil level had dropped I would be more concerned.
