Hey everyone,

Just a few questions about buying a bare block... Shoudl be simple but just would like someone to confirm my thoughts.

If one of the rotors has no compression then it\'s probably lost a tip or two, which I\'m guess would trash the rotor housing, probably a side housing or two and maybe the rotor itself right?

So it\'d be better to get a block that\'s just suffered a water seal failure as then it may just be a side plate that\'s gone? And the rotor housing should be OK?

Or is it random as to the condition of these parts and what can be reused?

Cheers,
Mark

a motor with water seal failiure could be warped if the owner has driven it with high temps.
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

and if the motor has een sitting around too long without being spun regularly then maybe the seals have stuck.
need to know more background info on the block.
  cheers, michael.

Between a rock and a hard place really.
Water seal failure can mean excessive corrosion of rotors and side plates when the engine is pulled apart and warped housings too.
Apex seal failure can mean as you said possibly a rotor and rorotr housing needind replacement, but still there could be futher damage to.

Cheers guys, not so straight forward then... There\'s an engine going with no compression on the front rotor not too far from me, but it\'s weather it worth going for something like this or holding out for something else...

As you say, rock and a hard place... I guess just getting a block in any condition would be the best start, then get the housing / side plates as required.
