Hi Folks,

Just bought a 1990 non turbo. Got few questions and wondered if anyone can help? Do the electric window switches light up on the drivers/passenger door? Does the the mirror switch light up? If they do, mine don\'t! The clock/warning display panel seams to have a mind of it\'s own. Sometimes I get no indications at all when I put the key in and then can be driving along and the rear fog light indicator comes on and the clock goes out! (having not touched anything) The fog lights don\'t come on though. I get no warning lights at all when I put the key in and turn it to postion II. I have had three of these now and can\'t remember any strange behaviour like this!

Also this one has leather seats/ door cards? Did they put this in the later models?

Sorry I know this forum is not for techniacl threads but can\'t find the correct one.

welcome aboard :D

1 - the window swithces do not light up
2 - neither does the mirror switch
3 - leather door cards ... errrrrrrrr not on the later models - i think they came on the cabs ( as did the leather seats )

hope this helps

Thanks for that Stu, I couldn\'t remember with they lit up or not saves me trying to search the work shop manual to try and get them to work! :Laugh

The seller said that the leather seats/door cards are orginal maybe it was an option back then.

This is my forth EGi and it\'s one of the best ones if I\'ve seen. It has the usual faded red but that\'s easily sorted with some G3 and a bit of elbow grease, the alloys are mint and there are no dents/rust anywhere on the body work. Think I got a bargain. Who knows I may actually keep this one!:Laugh

grinder

it might have been an option - not sure to be honest

Is it not an import? I thought they stopped selling the egi in the UK with the series 4. I was under the impression the only series 5 cars in the country are Turbo II\'s.

pjd7325

No it\'s not an import as far as I\'m aware i\'ve checked the spec with that of the workshop manual and it is uk spec. Nothing on the log book/documents to suggest otherwise. It was registered on 01/08/89!

im sure i have seen some UK EGI\'s kicking around - pretty rare though

im not sure if you can tell with the chassis number or not ???

the V5 would confirm this though

I have got the V5. It doesn\'t  state it has been imported. The Vin number begins JMZFC and the engine number 13BE084056.

grinder

sounds like a UK one then

Brett

There were two versions of the EGi in the UK.
The early car (upto the middle of 1988) had no power steering and a boot lip spoiler.
The later car (Latter half of 1988-) had a wrap around rear spoiler and power steering.

Hope that helps :wave

If it\'s a 13 digit VIN number then it\'s a uk car (I think it\'s thirteen anyhoo - must go and check mine)

Just checked - it\'s 17 digits for UK car.

Look\'s like I have stumbled accross quite a rare version of the EGi then. Mine has the full leather interior, colour coded rap around spoiler and has power steering. It\'s only done 63000 miles too. I think this one will be a "keeper" now. Got a gew jobs that need doing on it. Rear exhausts could do with replacing as they are quite corroded, the transmission seams very noisey could be the thrust bearing and/or clutch. Going to replace the clock/warning display as it seams to have a mind of it\'s own and maybe a set of new discs and pads. Also a good alarm system.  It\'s got a long MOT so nothing urgent just as and when funds allow.

Prof

Sorry - just ammended the post - 17 digits for a uk registered car
