Hello..... 1st things 1st and all that so thought I\'d say hello to everyone and beg for help with my new toy.  As a plaything to go alongside my Renaultsport Megane (please don\'t hold the Frenchness against me) I\'ve just bought a 1988 non Turbo RX7 in go faster Red!!! 1 small problem is that it appears to be BrOkEn!!!  It starts & runs & goes but with a total lack of power.  Backfires occasionally too & sounds very noisy but I don\'t think the Janspeed exhaust helps much there.  It\'s got a Hurley Rotary sticker on the engine so I spoke to them & they reckon it cound have one of their engines in but can\'t tell me a lot more as it\'s gotta be over 6 years ago as it\'s an old sticker (very helpful guy called Mick though so thanks to him).

E886 ERK don\'t suppose the car used to belong to anybody on here did it?

Any help on anything about this car would be loads of help and very gratefully received as I LOVE the kinda pointy retroness of the car & would love to get it going again but I don\'t really want to spend a fortune on it & I\'m in CORNWALL which seems to be limiting my options....

Thanks in advance people

Welcome to the club r1chy99 :) I\'ll try my best to not hold the french aspect against you.. *twitch* :Tongue1  I think the first thing you need to figure out is  the engine blown or not.  If your handy with a spanner you can do a poor mans compression test and take it from there. :yes  but im sure one of the gen2 buffs will jump in and offer a much better array of sollutions than me :Laugh

damit grinder - your fast.
I woof in your general direction.

Thanks for the early replies, forgot to mention, New distrib. cap, plugs, leads, oil filter & air filter. Getting a spark from each plug. Seems to run better after swapping the coil connections around & cut some of the backfiring down. I\'m afraid I\'m a bit of a spanner dunce but I\'ve got a clever friend that makes helicopters fly & he\'s been through all this with me. The cold start auto idle reduction thing seems to be working ok although it sometimes idles when warm & sometimes doesn\'t. It is looking quite tricky to find someone to do a compression test down here too, the local Mazda dealers are ignoring me & most other people go "Oooh no boy, them\'s special them is, arrrrrrrrrrrrr"

Oooh the thick plottens

you got the leads on the right way ??

can you get hold of a NORMAL compression tester ??

if so - use that for the test - but hold the release valve in so that it wont hold pressure

even cheaper than that - remove the plugs , turn it over and listen - if you get 3 even PSSSTT then thats a start
