Right first noob questions from dboy and certainly not the last i can promise.

1. Whats the difference between a 13B engine and a 20B engine, is it that the 13 is a twin rotary and the 20 is a triple ??

2. how come the 2.6 twin turbo is taxed as a 1.3 litre ? or have i got my wires crossed there as well ??

Cheer for the education guys :D

1. yes you have that correct, a 13B is a twin rotor and a 20B is a triple rotor.

2. Each rotor is 650cc so if you have a twin rotor its a 1300cc, and a triple rotor is 1950cc thats why they are called a 13b and 20b.  So in reality a rx7 FD is a 1300cc Twin Turbo.  However they say as a guide to compare a rotary to a piston engine you double it.  Also this is the way the insurance companies look at it, so when you get a quote they say its a 2.6 twin turbo when in reality its a 1.3.  With road tax you can get away with it if the car has been registered as a 1.3

I hope that helps explain things

Maybe souding stupid, so do all fd3\'s come with 13B\'s or is there some with the better 20B ?

kev-yorks

All standard fd\'s have the 13b but there are a few out there that have been modified to fit the 20b but this is a mega expensive engine swap to do right. The 20b was only fitted in the JC Cosmo as standard.
