And another thing while the rad\'s out... Where the hell does the pipes that comes from the side of the airbox (intercooler side) go?

I looks like it wraps round under the airbox, but it\'s not too clear what it joins onto? The last section is a hard plastic hose. I\'ve had it off for a while and covered the hole (as it\'s on the clean air side) and it\'s made no difference what so ever!

Can\'t see where it\'s supposed to go from the workshop manuals either...

It\'s an open pipe. It don\'t join to anything.

RemarkLima

Really???

But that\'s being sucked upon and is on the clean air side, meaning it\'s pulling in dirty air and bypassing the airfilter... Seems very, very odd!

Mine has a hardpipe attached to the end of the rubber hose, which looks like it fits over something as well?

I know for a fact that one pipe goes underneath the airbox and out the bottom of the car venting to open air. This has a plastic fitting on the end which is kinda oval shaped. The pipe your on about might goto the airpump

RemarkLima

I\'ve got the airpump pipe sorted ;)

But I think that\'s the pipe I\'m talking about, come out of the side of the airbox, goes underneath with a hard plastic end bit of the pipe.

But that\'s confuses me, it\'s on the clean air side, which will be under vacumme all the time and so you\'d be sucking dirty air into the clean air side, can\'t see any other way unless there\'s something inside the airbox splitting it up???

I think I know the one you\'re on about. It had me scratching my head for a while, but (if it is the one I\'m thinking of) it does indeed hang in mid air. I think it\'s part of the anti-moo system, which is a little part of the airbox all of it\'s own. I broke the pipe going into the box from the pump, and now it sounds like a cow :spank

RemarkLima

Ah, I see, so it\'s just the feed for the airpump? So it doesn\'t matter if it\'s dirty air going in!

Probably should unblock it before it melts the cat! ;)

Lol. It actually seems to be the overflow from the airpump. If the pump is engaged and the cat doesn\'t need the air, the bypass valves vent it out the top hose of the airpump. That\'s what makes the mooing noises. Try taking the top hose off the airbox and listen to it. If you blip the throttle it\'ll moo at you as the revs drop again. It\'s quite funny. The little box in the airbox seems to be some kind of silencer, and the pipe is routed out of the way to eliminate the rest of the noise.

JohnP

anyone managed to stop the dimented moo\'ing? i\'ve tried putting drilled plates and caps on it... its now got a pipercross filter on the end of it.. but the moo lives on!

RemarkLima

I\'ve even blocked up the hole with gaffer tape (it\'s unblocked again now) and never heard any moo\'ing at all...

...I think you\'re all mentalists with some kind of weird cow fetish :p :D

Lol. :rollin

Can you feel any air coming out of that hose?

John, with the HKS induction kit I have there\'s a little black plastic silencer bubble that fits into the hose. It seems to do pretty much the same job as the chamber in the air box. I\'ll pull it out of the car and take some pics if you want?

JohnP

sounds ideal.. this is what happens when u buy used bits :) but hey, i can live witha moo for the sake of saving a packet
