Did an oil change on my FD yesterday and doing it in a rush I didnt notice until I was packing away after I\'d filled my oil back up that I had forgotten my sump plug washer

Now......can I take the sump plug out and plug the hole with my finger while I get a trusty apprentice to quickly put the washer on then put it back in and try and lose a minimum of oil which luckily I can just top back up
OR
because I\'ve done the sump up really tightly and after running the engine for a couple of mins and around the block without any leakage do you guys think I\'ll be ok until I change the oil next time?

The temp at the moment is good -On a Cool day the sump will be smaller - i\'d say Why risk it.

true dat.  Looks like I\'m gonna get oily tonight and not in a good way with the missus :wiggle

RedRummy

catch the oil and stick it back in....     :D

(PS - probably not such a good idea)

Did think of that but apart from my catch can which is bogging got nothing to catch it in and only want a small piece of grit to get into the engine and :eek

I never bother with sump plug washers. Never had a problem.

I always use a new washer, at every oil filter change and reuse the old washer at the in-between oil changes, but if it ain\'t leaking I would just make a note to keep rechecking the plug for tightness every day for a few days then every week or every fortnight or so if its OK. Don\'t think you\'ll have any trouble. As for a trusty apprentice trying to put the washer back, deffo forget that one. It\'ll be like the Marx Brothers under a Castrol Niagra falls.

simply turn the car upside down, undo the sump plug, change the washer.
Getting old... Its not like it was in my day!

Sorted now.  Got a big 5 litre bucket from work so I can drain my new oil into that, redo up the sump plug with a washer and then put the oil back in without risk of and grit or anything getting in there.

shaunwil

just put it through a rag as a filter just to make sure you get rid of any bit in the bucket and you will be fine.

I don\'t have to remove the plug to change oil, has a mini tap in its place :D
