Its been happening for a while but its getting worse. Sometimes in low gears and revs get  terrible judder and vibration, sounds like from the gearbox area, and also when coming down the gears. If i blip the throttle when changing down its fine and nice and smooth. I\'ve had it on the ramp and checked the ppf which is tight, i have new diff mounts also. Checked the prop and with all 4 wheels on the floor in neutral you can turn the prop round a fair bit either way.

Anybody know whats wrong is the gearbox on its way out???

Any help would be great

just a thought do you have a lightened flywheel. Mine started juddering like that because i didnt change the counterweight:rolleyes:

I have gandy its an excedy hyper single which does have a lightened fly wheel with it. I\'ve been told it could be my gearbox on its way out something to do with the output shaft.

Mine has a lightweight flywheel and counterweight and still does it quite badly sometimes. Must be the penalty for having a lightweight flywheel.

Grizzly

I doubt it will be the counter weight, mainly because the aftermarket flywheel would have nothing to bolt too. :)

I would say its more likely to be your clutch or Pilot bearing if the seal wasn\'t replaced with the clutch it could have gone. if it is the Pilot bearing that will kill your Box bearings over time.

But the place i worked a while back had a Rs Turbo van (yeh i know chav\'ish) that was running 260hp and it had a Monster Clutch in it, when you pulled off in low gears it would Judder really Bad if you let the clutch out slowly.

What\'s the pilot bearing??????? Is this the clutch release bearing?

Grizzly

No its a bearing in the end of the Crank shaft the gearbox\'s output shaft sits in, if it fails it can cause some odd faults one of them is vibrations through the box.

Its recommended that there changed every clutch, but there a royal pain to do without the proper tools so they often get left. they are just a Needle bearing with a seal at the end, if the seal goes it will get clogged up with Clutch dust.

FEED Rocket

That may make sense. I have a huge clutch, FEED 600bhp twin plate jobber. You reckon i need to get the pilot bearing seen to?

Grizzly

Don\'t get me wrong it could just be a really hard biting clutch (it has been know) but it is also a sign of a Bad Pilot bearing, I have to say feed with your car just coming from Newera i would doubt it would have a fault that obvious.

FEED Rocket

True. The clutch bites like a great white so its probably that. If it goes tits the bearing will hopefully be covered under the warranty.

Can also be called "spigot shaft bearing"

The low torque characteristics of ported rotaries with lighter rotational mass contribute to this judder at part throttle and low rpm. Annoying, but normal. :Thumbs-up

What you\'ve got there sounds exactly like what I had, and mine got progressivly worse. The power plant had snapped into 3 pieces, get it looked at ASAP.

marky

Cheers for the replies, sounds like i\'ll have to get the gearbox looked at. Is this expensive if i do have to replace the bearings? The PPF looks ok but will check it over whilst the box is out

When I come off track I usually get alot of judder if I reverse the car but not going forwards ........ odd ...........  but it goes away.
