I broke my alternator while it was on the car, so quickly removed it to see if it could be fixed, i was loosening the nut with the wire that goes on the condensor terminal ( the brown plastic bit ).

And due to my ( oh s**t ive broke the alternator ) state of mind i forgot to disconect the battery, doh!!!

I sparked the rachet off on the top of the engine, basically earthed out i pressume.

Now, ive replaced the alternator, added a twin pulley, 3 new belts, connected everything back up.

Tried to start it, nothing.

It has got a piranha immobiliser ( which doesnt seem to be in operation, used to work ), but the ignition wont do anything.

The central locking works, and stereo turns on.

Is there any obvious fuse that ive blown, or is it just check everything, does anyone know if the immobiliser would have a in-line fuse or box??

Underr bonnet fuse box,  look for the biggest fuses u can see :)

Matts-gen2

Are they all in the small box near the battery and suspension tower?

Paul-Tll

Do you still have bat voltage on the terminal on the Alt?
If not you may have blown the 100A ? (bolt in Fuse) on the fuse box (engine bay)

What testing voltage from the alternator?  is that wehat your saying?

Im looking at it tonight when i get back from work.

Are them 100A fuses hard to get hold of? If it is that one.

Paul-Tll

The lead that conects at the top of the alternator with the rubber boot on it.
The 100AMP fuse will be Mazda only part and prob gen 2 only?
I bought one from Pip years ago 2nd hand for about fiver?

That was the one i was undoing when the ratchet sparked out on the engine.

Have you got a spare?

If it it that i need one for tommorow.

Oh dear.....

Matts-gen2

I dont suppose there are spare ones of these in the fuse box / or the internal fuse box???

Matts-gen2

Right found the culprit!

It is the main fuse thats blown, but its an 80A not a 100A.

I presume an 80A is the correct one for it anyway, the cars a 1989, so may have a crossover one???

Anyway has anyone local to Essex got a spare 80A fuse?

Needed for tommorow if possible?

just check the label on your alternator 86 - 89 had a 70amp alternator
i have seen the fuses on ebay but you may not get that untill tuesday now

Mark

Matts-gen2

Does that mean if it a 70Amp alternator, you need an 80Amp fuse?

Matts-gen2

Just read your other post.

That should run better with that alt now?

Did you sort your water leak after your strip run?

I was the one with the red egi.

didnt have a water leak just burnt the alternator out, a good change to upgrade it, it got me home and i have a 50amp on a the mo so the car is still runing it is a second car so its not a biggie take it you now have a double pulley that will help things when you get a fuse!

Yeah, i did write off the alternator trying to get the single pulley off tho, trying to keep the fins still, screwdriver, ratchet, broke fins.

Ive learnt my lesson, use a rattle gun in the future.

Power steering belt seems good, alternator belts maybe tiny bit loose.

How do you get them tight, i used the flat end of a crow bar to lever the alt up on its adjuster slot.  Theres no other way really is there.

Il re-check belts after 500-1000 miles, hopefuly  wont be screetching  down the strip in October!
