Hi guys.

Need some help. Think my diff could be on the way out.

Basically what happens is when making a tight turn there is a very loud clonk from the inside wheel and it feels like it hops as the rear of the car moves. Nearly seems like its acting like the diff is locked.

Car drives fine in a straight line but cornering isn\'t good at all.

Does it sound like the diff is gone?

Cheers,
Paul

How long have you had the car - did it always do this?

Just wondering if you may have an uprated diff like a kazz?

Sounds more likely to be a bush or bearing to me

I\'ve got a 2 way FEED spec diff, and it clonks like a bag of spanners when turning at low speeds.

If the behaviour of yours has changed recently, then get it looked at, but if its always done this, and you have a 1.5 or 2way diff, then its normal.

Hi guys cheers for the replies.

I\'ve had the car for just over a month and no it hasn\'t always done it! Did it for the first time a few weeks back when leaving a car park - that time it was just one loud clonk. It did it every now and again after that and I presumed it was toe links or diff bushes so have them on order - however last nite it got really bad when turning into a space in a car park. Instead of sounding like a 2 way diff when turning slow it sounds like its going to break instead!

I just got the car over the pit and there is oil and dirt on the diff beside the passenger drive shaft and on the end of the shaft (the green bit) but the driver side is bone dry. The oil isn\'t sitting thick or dripping or anything, it has just left a mark on the diff and the end of the shaft is covered in it.

Cheers,
Paul

Had the same clonks n noises just before my diff blew. I\'d strip it out n have a look if i were you mate. Do it before something serious happens,if it does go pop it might take the casing with it.. Thats not good

Cheers mate - car has been off the road since last nite - decided that was the safest option! Going to get a 2nd hand diff for now - have one lined up and everything, i\'ll strip the old one and maybe rebuild it, or get a kaaz diff for it or something!

Good thinking bud! I bought a Kaaz from Gary at RotaryArt and i\'m well pleased with it..You might want to invest in a diff brace as well,that\'ll help hold things together and improve your lauches..

We have a diff brace here

In a couple of months we may have our one out, looking at one now.

Just do a quick check, jack the rear of the car up and turn one of the wheels, if they both go in the same direction you\'ll have an 1.5 or 2.0 aftermarket diff installed, if yhey go in opposite directions then you have a problem with your stock diff.

Dragon do a superb stainless steel one. They also do a gearbox brace as well.I have both and they really tighten the car up nicely..

I actually did that the other day and they both go in the same direction - I thought that a standard lsd would do this too though??

I\'m of the opinion its on its way out though, as the clonking got really bad towards the end and it didn\'t do that when I bought the car.
