The arrowed pulley?

The inside of the pulley in which the drive-belt sits, spins along with the pulley onidle, but upon revving the car especially revving quick, the inside stops dead?
Is this right?
As mine is quite noisy too ?

cheers.

Yeah thats right. Its the air pump it sends clean air into the Cat to help with emmisions, something like that anyway.

gmogle

I dont have a cat in mine so have disconnected it. Probably wouldnt recommend doing so if you have got one so as it helps cool the cat also I believe.

benRX7

Yeah if you still have a cat it can clog up if you disconnect it. It was the first thing I removed tho:)

It might be a bit noisier than standard, sort of mooing noise, you can hear the noise more with an aftermarket air filter, the pulley is on the air pump, and is an electro/magnetic clutch. mine cuts out around 2k.

I think I have not got a CAT, so how do I go about disconnecting it?
As i\'ve got a Re-Am filter and its making an annoying noise!

If you have no cat for deffinate then you can temporary disconnect it by unplugging the electrical plug which sits right on top.

More perminant would be to remove the air pump itself which you would also need blanking plates and new belts - think you need an underdrive pulley do do it properly too.

Thats IS correct, there\'s no blanking plate kit though.

The removal kit just consists of two pulleys and a shortened belt.

yes their are blanking plate kits, it also maket the job tidyer (sp) as you can remove some pipes rather than just blocking them off. got mine from MRP, at the top.

CAT is under the car on the RX\'s isnt it? Not in downpipe like Supras?

Only the UK models have a pre-cat in the downpipe, also another one underneath in the mid pipe, Jap models don\'t have the pre-cat in the downpipe.

So it should be quite noticeable under my car the, if I had one?

I can see a litle wire tucked up under there, which I assume may well have been attached to a lambda on the CAT?

RobbieRX-7

Is the wire going into the exhaust. If so then you probably still have the cat. It\'s a heat sensor warning when the cat get\'s too hot. If you have no cat, you simply pull this wire back into the car and join the wires together to get rid of the heat light on the dash. Also to remove the airpump properley, you need the 3 blanking plates. You remove the acv along with the 2 solenoids that operate it. You only remove the airpump if you have no main cat under the car.
