its a one way check valve chap
There are performance cars and then there is the RX-7...........

12.3 second 1/4 mile, terminal speed of 122mph (1st ever drag run on a TO4R)

engine built by....... umm me! now powered by a T51 Kai......

A Big Thanks to John for last night, for the valve and lending me the tools to fix it there and then!

...but its been mixed emotions on the drive home... Initialy it did not fix my boost issue.... it did a little was now getting .4 on first turbo (which is an improvement) Then after driving home giving a blast here and there and still no full boost! nearly get home and all of a sudden in 3rd and the boost goes to .8 :D drove around my town a bit more and all was fine..... went to drop off my mate at his and then started getting over boost @1.0!! dropped him off and as I left some Corsa was up my ass, as i was driving slowly, so just put my foot down and perfect boost through 3rd/4th/5th 0.8-0.7-0.8 (still running stock twins) no under boost no over boost.....

any ideas what could of happened to clear this issue nearly 1hr after fitting a valve? plus is the over boost issue i had for 5mins anything to worry about now it has cleared?

John_Hudson

Glad i could help dude, how is it boosting in 1st & 2nd ?

goldk28611

its not in 1st - well not getting past .4 and does not feel like 2nd turbo kicks in but 2nd is fine so is 3/4/5th....

I can hear the BOV going off in 1st which i didn\'t before when i had no boost (before valve change)

Any ideas??

John_Hudson

i\'ll have a think while at work :D

That\'s a classic symptom of a specific problem. I can\'t remember what it is right now, but will find out for you. It\'s to do with either no pressure being available to a specific actuator, or no vacuum. Just can\'t remember the actuator, or whether it\'s pressure or vacuum.

goldk28611

just to add drove home from work at lunch and all working correctly still.

Drove back to work and back to only getting .4 in all gears on first turbo and fine still on 2nd
ahhhhh!!!!

The wastgates have been tested and also it has been VAC checked too if that makes a difference and all was ok... this was before the valve was replaced.

any ideas will be great - ill be at RS4 on Sat too if anyone can have a look for me :D:cheers

How about this:

QuoteThe Turbo Control Solenoid / Actuator is one of the more complicated actuators as it requires both vacuum and pressure to operate properly. This actuator is controlled by two solenoids, (both are wired together to the one ECU output) one solenoid applies pressure to one side of the actuator and the other applies vacuum to the other side of the actuator. With pressure on one side and a vacuum on the other side of the actuator, the speed of the actuator is improved. A typical problem is loss of Secondary boost in 1st or 2nd gear at 4,500 RPM, but reliable operation in other gears. This points to one side of the Turbo Control Actuator not getting it\'s pressure/vacuum, so it will still operate but not quickly enough.

goldk28611

that mentions loss of secondary boost loss.... its that implying that its the boost that gets created for the 2nd turbo at 4.5k revs? as mine is happening before this and perfect after 4.5k revs....

nikp

oh.....ok, it\'s not that then!!
