Hi guys - first post so be gentle!!

I recently bought an RX7. Its running standard TT setup but with Apexi ecu, decat, full exhaust, panel filter etc. All work including rebuild and remap was carried out by re:worx.

The car goes well, however i\'ve noticed on the boost guage that in first gear i\'m only getting 5psi of boost, in 2nd gear it hits 7psi and tails back to nearly 5psi about 6k rpm, in third it hits 8psi but again it tails back to around 6. Does this sound normal as I don\'t think it is? Boost guage is Autometer.

I have an FC Commander but I can\'t understand the boost reading through it! Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,
Paul

Just looked into this a bit more - decided to monitor the boost readings of the commander - in 1st gear it is recording 0.56kg/cm2 which is about 8psi and in 2nd gear the commander is reading 0.72kg/cm2 which from what i can see equals around 10psi - so pretty much standard. First of all do these readings sound normal?? However the boost guage is only reading 5psi and 7psi. Would I be right in thinking that the boost guage is not accurate? If anyone can shead any light it\'ll be much appreciated! Would like to take the car to Carl for a checkover and tune but with being in N. Ireland its just not that easy!

Cheers,
Paul

in a nutshell more expensive is better.

trust the apexi as its what the engine is seeing and fueling for. The boost controller is getting its reading from elsewhere and all devies tend to read a little different.

Cheers for the reply m4drx.

Anyone want to recommend a boost guage - and not one at costing 100\'s!? Current guage is Autometer.

maybe better to go for a boost controller ? - not cheap though

i had the same make boost guage and the readings where a mile of on it. so took it out and just read of the comander now  AC stuff imo is crap imo

Would the normal set up to run a boost controller with the Apexi Power FC? I\'m new to all this but I thought the ecu was mapped to control the boost?

boost  controllers can be picked up cheap but there is no reason to do this if the car is not decatted and has the boost pills still on as all the devices on the car are designed to run and maintain stock boost levels fine when all working its only when you make a change that you need more controls etc.

Car is decatted - this was carried out at re:worx and mapped afterwards. However it appears it is still boosting standard - 0.72 bar. What are the boost pills?

just reread the thread and seen my other post.

if the apexi is mapped etc it is fine. boost depends on load so you may see different readings which arent always an issue.
you dont need a boost controller although it wouldnt hurt with a decatted setup but not necessary at all.

you do certainly have a boost issue which sounds related to check valves or vac lines. test the valves and vac lines then the solenoids etc. i am sure you will find your problem.

Was going to install a different boost gauge last nite to see what readings it would give and when I took my current gauge out i discovered that the vacuum pipe was kinked nearly closed just where it goes into the back of the gauge. This could possibly be leading to the wrong readings. What I want to do is just snipe off the offending piece, however there is a small brass fixing on the end of the vacuum pipe, which holds the pipe inside the nut. If I snip the pipe is there any way I can refit the brass fixing or what should I do?

Really would like the gauge reading right as its too hard to monitor it on the commander!
