Any advice most welcome. Know someone trustworthy who imports a lot of spares and the odd car and am about to ask him to have a look round for me but would appreciate any advice you guys might be able to give me.
Am going to defect lol had my fto for 9yrs now and feel I need a change and more power;) Been a bloody good car bought at 25000mls and now on 166000
Will be on tight budget as recovering from a bankruptcy couple of years ago....damn inl rev lol.

well you have certainly come ot the right place, ahve you checked the for sale section?? you always have to watch out with cheap imports you get alot of old dogs which arent far of a rebuild and have boost and cooling issues etc.  Just do your homework on here and you will be fine.

signed up a while ago when we got the 76 1300 but not had cash to spend on it will be nice retro.....eventually lol.
From reding a fair few threads now realise theres a good few points to keep an eye on. Unless I\'m sure of condition will maybe look for something pretty standard and go from there

you would prob be better off getting a car off here..... that way you know the history and its an all in price.
if you import on there could be problems!..... ie will it be damaged on the shop? was it a write off in japan and bodged for the uk market? was it nicked in japan????
there are some cheap ones in japan like £2000 - 2500 but when you add on shipping costs, regestration, VAT at 17.5% and duty at virtually 10% your talking £4k approx. And thats a car that you havnt seen and know virtually nothing about. for that you can get on already in the UK!!

we had both together but i noticed alot of people defect from ftos to rx7s wierd that.

well to my surprise, what with my history, got accepted for a loan today.
Tight budget have 5k loan and with all the miles and work needed the fto is worth very little. Prob better off selling the good a/m bits off like coilovers etc.
The more I look the more wary I now am of cheap ones seem to be quite a few about for 5k or less but lots I wouldnt touch with a bargepole.
Rising sun nr me are importing a good looking yellow one with nice kit for 4k but sadly the red engine bay and mileage put me off.

chrisJDM

well the red engine bay would be easy to sort out but you always havve to be wary of high mileage, they always say as a rough guide about 60,000 miles for a rebuild but all depends on how the engines been treated etc, if they havent been treated to wel will go pop before then, although on the other hand i know one which went on to 89,000 before rebuild so its a bit of luck really, not wanting to put you off or anything

trouble is 5k wouldnt cover the car and a poss engine

funny that lol....looked at it twice today

chrisJDM

that yellow one looks ok but that is very high mileage without a rebuild
