Sorry to revive an old thread here guys, but this is the most pertinent to the research I\'m just doing!

I noticed the other day (quite warm at the weekend) that the PFC showed a peak of 100 degrees water temp, which occurred at the start of the journey - clearly the water temperature had risen after I turned the car off 10 minutes earlier (makes sense without airflow over the rad I suppose).

Is this bad? Or is it OK to switch the engine off with water temps approaching 100 degrees? I know to hit the aircon on full to get temps down, but once the engine\'s off the water can heat back up, as seemed to happen the other day. Just a bit worried about water seal damage, so looking for some reassurance! :o :Thumbs-up

(BTW, water temps when driving haven\'t got above 95 degrees yet).

why not run colder thermostate??? I have just replaced mine with SAARD one and the difference is clearly there to be seen.  Took me 20 mins to change and cost 40quid...:Thumbsup!

Think 95 is when fans kick in - never gone above on mine i watch the commander like a hawk as its always on  water & intake temps screen, general tootling along water is 81 to 82

Sounds just like mine Peter.

Colder thermostat could be a good solution Laeeq...

It\'s just heat soak in the engine, it\'s unfortunately normal.  Even if you get your temps to say 83 when you switch off - if you check 5 mins later they will be over 100 again.

Cool, that\'s what I thought. :)

Now I just have to work out why the expansion tank is always over the full mark when I check before starting the car (coolant is also near the top of the filler cap neck too!)...

122 degrees is deffo borderline, when i had a split rad on the old rx the temp hit 115 on the road and i pulled off and turned it off asap as usually it never went over 90oC :2Confused  had no water left !!!!

Also 95% inj duty is on the limit too, a higher flowing fuel pump will sort for the short term if looking for more power in the future then injectors will have to be replaced too :2eek

The newer RX on a very hot day never seems to go over 82oC even stuck in traffic :cool  deffo a good setup hence why i bought the car :Giggle Also has big gap between rad and intercooler so no heat soak from rad to intercooler either.

Think by the sounds of it you were lucky. it must have been borderline!. i say a new rad and maybe invest in some heat wrap???? I wrapped all my boost pipes and it actually did knock the temp down!! mine never goes above 95\'c even caneing it!!!

as for the injectors... i say bigger fuel pump and bigger injectors. I dont know how it effects RX7s but if a supra reaches that its by by engine!! seen several holes in pistons caused by injector failure when they reach those kinds of levels.

Sorry guys, this is partly my fault for resurrecting an older thread - I think Mikey is probably OK, as this was back in April!

What I was after was a bit of reassurance that 100 degrees (or more?) due to heatsoak after parking up is OK (apparently it is).

I\'m now worried about the high level of coolant in my expansion tank when the engine is cold (i.e. before I start it up), but I feel another thread coming on for that...

Some people have said to let the engine cool down after a run through two rad fan start/stop cycles.
Tried this.
Temp started at 80C and went to 100C which i guess is where the rad fans kick in !!
Sounds like a bad idea.

Yeah, once you turn the engine off, heatsoak sets in and the water temps raise to about 100. As soon as the engine is back on again the temps drop down to 80.

You can actually reprogramme to get the fans coming on when you want them to IE move to 90oC activation and so forth ?? :cheers

With the PFC? Cool, I\'ll have a read of the manual. :)

you will need to plug in datalogic or some ting to alter any changes or setting..you cant just do that on a commander.

Not sure of the exact procedure but it can be done, i\'m sure one of the tuners will know more, as i think the standard temp is 95oC for the fans to activate, but it can be moved.

The Skyline i had ran the fan all the time to keep it cool as small intercooler on the GTS-T and that ran the PFC too :Party
